Dirty Politics - Pitting languages - English vs. urdu

. .
It has had 70 years to be promoted to its strength.

Don't try to live in 1800s

Don't try to act smart when you are not.

Our founding fathers chose this language as the national language. If one wants to debate that you might as well get rid of Pakistan and become part of India.

Just because one doesn’t know how to speak or read Urdu does not mean it should not be implemented as national language.

@OP
Please provide the sources of the percentages you just mentioned.

Why you all (who oppose this) acting like we will abandon learning English if Urdu becomes our official language?

According to the logic of some people here then China is living in 1800.

The next step should be to convert the scientific and non-scientific literature in Urdu so for coming generations we could atleast provide them with choices to either study and research in Urdu or in English as well.

How easy it would be to learn all those mathematical and scientific concepts in your national language. Burden on students will be much lesser.

And how exactly would this conversion be achieved and kept updated, Sir?

.
Sir, I don't exactly remember the name of that institution or department which works under supervision of Government related to Language Research(something like that). They have the responsibility to update and add new words into the language and then they update it by publishing dictionary after some time. They decide it whether we will use the english word as it is in urdu or develop a new word in urdu for it.

And i doubt that institution works properly anymore. About time those people get some spanking and start working on developing the language they neglected for so long.

After we get the new words added in urdu or borrowed from english then other related departments can translate the scientific material.

There must be some research papers in urdu translation done by some professors but only on personal basis i guess.

And there is no need to make things like this English VS Urdu.
We just need to provide our people with ease so that they can at least understand and able to read their documents.

And i guess this will not completely remove english as official language but we will have urdu as well for every document.
Doesnt mean that our license etc things will only be in urdu. It will have both urdu and english sides.

Funny, every european country has its own language as the official language. Every single one.

Strange thing about english; the darker a people get, the more important english becomes.

Leave it dude, europe is so 1800.

Some people are in a hurry to go to 22nd century before others.

That is the key. If Urdu can be developed to that level, it will replace English automatically. Trying to force a change like this simply will not work.

.
They are just translating the documents into english not against the learning english.
And the english in documents is not that it cant be translated into urdu.
If they can be translated into urdu then why not?

And there is no harm in delivering speeches in urdu. At least we will be able to convey our message conveniently.
The rest is the job of translator which many developed nations use.

By the time you become a politician you have already studied(if you studied actually) enough in english. So it would give no harm to your english skills.

Sadly in Pakistan, backward tribal thinking keeps on harping on urdu as official language.

This is all the while in our country for the last 70 years (and almost 90 years before 1947):

-- 90% + of ALL documentation / communication in higher Education is in English
-- 90% + of ALL documentation / communication in higher courts is in English
-- 90% + of ALL documentation / communication in army/military is in English
-- 90% + of ALL documentation / communication in ministries is in English
-- 90% + of ALL documentation / communication in corporate sector is in English
-- 90% + of ALL documentation / communication in higher level Police is in English

And yet, small but vocal section of Karachi and Lahore Elite keep on harping about Urdu as "official" language as Urdu.

This is nothing but neo-colonial mindset so prevalent among this small but vocal section of elite.

And why to forget that Pakistan is blessed with expertise in English rivaled only by a handful of regions around the world.

Other people look at us in awe when we can easily switch between English and Urdu and possibly a third language (like Punjabi, Pushto, Sindhi or Balochi).

This type of strength should be encouraged in today's global village.

Instead some of us want to drag us back to 1900 AD.

and some even back to the sand dune Biduin days of 600 AD.

What a sad state of affairs.

We all right in perfect English, that we should replace English with Urdu.

What an irony.

What the heck is wrong with some people.

As in every other country, the official language should be our own language.

Get rid of English and replace it with urdu.

“If you speak to a man in a language he understands, you speak to his head. If you speak
to a man in his own language, you speak to his heart.”

In our case:
I think dandey ki language (aka Chitrol) should be introduced at each and every level whenever it is intentionally or unintentionally desired :agree:

If they can be translated into urdu then why not?

Just who is going to do all these translations, and who is going to implement the decision that all future documents are going to be created in Urdu?
