Actually, many young women ( "educated" ) in India have, in the last 10 years, taken up burqa, either by brainwashing or finding themselves helpless within the social pressure created by the Tableeghi Jamaatis.

I work, shop, and eat in/near old city areas in Delhi. I even live close to them. You can clearly tell that the burqa wearers are the poor or lower middle class - and the numbers are more or less limited.

The places where you get a lot of burqas are the extremely impoverished areas, which look worse than villages - chandni chowk, nangloi.. The like
