Crackdown against pharma companies launched for hike in medicine prices

One hundred and forty three medicines have been seized for being sold at high price.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) on Saturday has launched a countrywide crackdown against the pharma companies for illegal and unauthorized increase in prices of medicines.

According to a DRAP spokesperson, the action against 31 pharma companies was carried out after Minister for Health Aamir Kiani took notice of the increase in medicine prices.

These pharmaceutical companies have also been barred from producing medicines and cases are being registered against them under the Drug Act.

One hundred and forty three medicines have also been seized for being sold at high price.

Meanwhile, Minister for Health Aamir Kiani said stern action will be taken against the companies which breach the law.

I think the hikes were not allowed ...med prices are also regulated to some extend...

i think it would be better that govt buy such medicines and sell at desired rates to public instead of forcing private sector to sell on desired price of govt.

I think the hikes were not allowed ...med prices are also regulated to some extend...

it is called regulating....Not everyone can open a pharmacy and sell at a price they choose....You need license and with license comes rules...

Well I am not sure what the set of rule is and how fair or unfair it is...So cant comment if it is not fair....

I think it is reasonable ...however, you know how our own people are...jacking prices when they feel like...Govt even regulates prices of vegetables...Now is that not "unfair"?

When people themselves have no aqal...that sell lower ....they will prefer to let the produce rot then sell lower...For such mentality you do need danda!

That is the sad mentality...Agar meri nai chali, mein strike kerta houn! Childish and stupid ...wasting the country!

I mean sure you are allowed to demonstrate but stop making it a habit: kabhi lawyers, kabhi teachers, kabhi traders, kabhi farmers tay kabhi PhD holders!

What petrol goes into your medicine? These price hikes are nothing but gunda gardi. This is international behavior of pharmaceutical industry. You cannot let it continue fearing retaliation.
