Country is Bangladesh, capital Dhaka, say students in West Bengal

The above post of @Saiful Islam has been reported for use of foul language.

The answer was due certainly, you said and let me phrase "Many don't know what is Bangladesh". My son, that is very hard to believe when BD shares a large border with West Bengal. However I'm not too fussed if they don't know "what" BD is.

90% people hates India. Don't worry. :)

OMG ,we are soooo sad because BDis hates us :sarcastic:

I think those illegal BDis in India should leave our nation because of their hate .It is actually good to our people.

@Species I thought about this ignorance regarding Bangladesh among West Bengalis, and the reason I could understand is this:

Narratives of culture and society are set by the educated elite classes of the society and the politicians, Bengalis of West Bengal view themselves as educated, secular, liberal, modern, enlightened 'bhadralok' as per the narrative, and the whole history of partition on the basis of religion, the bloody riots, exodus on the basis of religion, etc. go against that classy narrative. Probably that's why long back West Bengalis have decided to cut the chord with Bangladesh and omit Bangladesh completely from their collective psyche to disassociate themselves from that part of the uncomfortable history. Only people like writers, singers, film makers care about Bangladesh or pretend to care about Bangladesh for its large market. Even that is changing with more people to people contact through social media, I have seen some renowned West Bengali writers in my facebook friends' list are realizing the differences and showing their displeasure.

Makes sense because by avoiding Bangladesh, the West Bengalis have also abandoned most of the Bengali history and culture which is reflected on the huge lack of knowledge about Bengali history and culture among the West Bengalis. Perhaps, the West Bengali elites prefer the North Indian history and culture over Bengali for better integration with the Indian Union which is obviously good for both West Bengal and India. :)

There was a video posted by someone in this forum where apparently educated Bangladeshis were asked about their opinion on Kazi Nazrul Islam's poetry "Poot koira dimu", and many Bangladeshis tried to give their 'informed' opinion on that great piece of work by Nazrul. So don't tell me about general Bangladeshis' knowledge about Bengali history and culture, it's not anything extraordinary.

In West Bengal those who pursue higher education in history or Bengali literature get to know all the finer details, a science student understandably will learn less about these subjects in the course of formal education. .

And we don't need any further or better integration with the Indian Union, we are Indian Union, fully integrated in it from our heart and mind. After joining this forum I have also learnt that Bangladeshis have this strange misconception about us.

Nehru had planned absorbing W Beng into Bihar. He had also asked DG, IB Mullick to foment anti-Bengali movements in Indian N Bengal and Assam. Nehru hated the Bengalis as much as he detested Netaji Subash. On ground Biharis have taken over elite areas and major businesses in Kolkata and other major towns. They have obtained recognition of Urdu as a state language of WB along with Bangla.

You can carry on your pledge, this is not Bangladesh section. :D

Looks like it's quite easy to get into government High schools in West Bengal for Bangladeshi migrants.

That's sad, it also explains why Bengali language is in a decline in West Bengal.
may be a migrant from bangladesh, yes it is very easy to get into high schools or even get voter id card / bpl card for bd migrants. besides we concluded swapping of land very recently, they are legit migrants.

Nothing surprising...Again, it reaffirms to the fact that the extent of illegal migration happens from BD to India...

I don't know which video you are talking. Bangladeshis are generally far more knowledgeable than West Bengalis about Bengali history and culture for some obvious reasons. One guy from West Bengal here didn't even know Surja Sen. And you also admitted that, West Bengal avoids anything related to Bangladesh, so you are bound to abandon most of Bengali culture and history.

It's always easy to blame it on the so called illegal migrants but do you think it would make a news in the largest circulated daily in West Bengal if the students were really illegal migrants? The article doesn't say so. Also, I checked the map of Bardhaman, the area were the incident happened it's not a border town, very much inside West Bengal.

Dear friend..i do not want to content you with the simple fact that i still like the people of BD in general and many PDF posters of BD too...So if you really think that people in West Bengal aspire to part of BD, then i can not help you my friend...It is as ridiculous thought as someone will be thinking of going to moon...

Exceptions exist where Musims of WB might be inclined to allign with Pakistan as they feel Pakistan is a synonym of Muslims rather than BD

Masterda Surya Sen is part of our history, he fought for independence of India from British Raj. We don't keep much information about Bangladesh after the partition in 1947. To be honest, in initial days after partition the divide was not so deep, but with time we have increasingly became quite oblivious to whatever is happening in Bangladesh. Now due to internet and social media like this forum, some West Bengalis are again getting to know a few things about Bangladesh, and the experience is not coming across as pleasant, whether it is about the rising radicalism in Bangladesh or the obnoxious childish behavior of Bangladeshis after every cricket match.

We receive approximately 6500-8000 (maybe more) permanent Bangladeshi migrants everyday in West Bengal alone, Hindus are leaving Bangladesh rapidly with their families and settling here, they have nowhere else to go, we got quite habituated with that.

Are they illegal migrants from Bangladesh ?

Understandably.

The point is not what I'm thinking I've just posted a news, it could be interpreted in different ways but obviously we need to be logical while interpreting.

You have gloated a lot but yet you can't even spell "Surja Sen" correctly.

Well, after partition, even in Bangladesh there's no information about West Bengal, so it makes sense.

We receive approximately 6500-8000 (maybe more) permanent Bangladeshi migrants everyday in West Bengal alone, Hindus are leaving Bangladesh rapidly with their families and settling here, they have nowhere else to go, we got quite habituated with that.

That myth was just busted brutally in this thread: We are not well here, want to return to Bangladesh: Bangladeshi Hindus in India

We spell it in that way: https://www.google.co.in/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=masterda surya sen

That's not a myth, almost half of West Bengal's population had their roots in East Bengal, a silly article doesn't change that. Come to my ancestral home in West Bengal and see how many people continuously come and settle in that place alone.
