What's new

Country is Bangladesh, capital Dhaka, say students in West Bengal

So you avoid your geography, Bengali literature?

Not completely, but the blame for the history and geography parts are largely shifted to British rule, at least in school level.

But Bangladesh as a topic is not discussed much. Most West Bengalis have very limited knowledge about Bangladesh. And remember, my origin is in that part of Bengal, even then..

. .
@Species I thought about this ignorance regarding Bangladesh among West Bengalis, and the reason I could understand is this:

Narratives of culture and society are set by the educated elite classes of the society and the politicians, Bengalis of West Bengal view themselves as educated, secular, liberal, modern, enlightened 'bhadralok' as per the narrative, and the whole history of partition on the basis of religion, the bloody riots, exodus on the basis of religion, etc. go against that classy narrative. Probably that's why long back West Bengalis have decided to cut the chord with Bangladesh and omit Bangladesh completely from their collective psyche to disassociate themselves from that part of the uncomfortable history. Only people like writers, singers, film makers care about Bangladesh or pretend to care about Bangladesh for its large market. Even that is changing with more people to people contact through social media, I have seen some renowned West Bengali writers in my facebook friends' list are realizing the differences and showing their displeasure.

It is because of this lack of knowledge when I joined this forum in 2013, I expected Bangladeshis to be pro-India and very friendly toward us; welcoming me, saying 'hi', etc. I had awfully strange feelings initially when realities hit hard, then I slowly realized that religion is still a very strong political and social dividing factor among us. I think the experience is pretty much the same for most Indians.

Leave the goddamn kid alone. Maybe he know a thing or two about Bangladesh more because of his sample. Maybe he is a migrant their. Calm down. Are you guys gonna strangle the kid for not knowing about West Bengal and India. He or she will learn more about his or her country and surroundings in coming years. Let em grow freely.

The blood of Shaheed Nawab Sirajuddaula calls us day and night, decades after decades, to raise his sovereign royal standard over Bangla-Bihar-Orissa. It is the dream of every child born in these lands. An unity is inevitable.

Yes, they are governed by people of wrong nationality. :D

Awami dalals?

If bengal reunites, i would pay premium cash money for front row seats to watch Hasina take on Mamata. Its like wwe superslam on crack.

In your dream! Bengal gave lost of blood to liberate both India. Did you forget Indian independence movement? Our national anthem is in Bengali. Whether it is Vande mataram or Jana gana mana. We gave blood for liberation of BD from Pakistan when many of the BD rajakars were supporting Pak army. :D If Myanmar attacks BD then we are the only hope BD has. Because

Oh wait, just noticed that this thread has been posted in "Central & South Asia" section.

Deep down most West Bengalis don't care about Bangladesh, many don't even know what is Bangladesh. Before joining this forum 3 years ago I was also completely clueless about Bangladesh and Bangladeshis barring the knowledge that they exist.

To be honest, I was better that way...

And yet you persist. As do your West Bengali brothers....

Creating troll-bait posts galore (almost every week as a matter of fact) in the Bangladeshi forum.

The fact that Indian posters (and their false-flagging Bangladesh-labeled alter egos) want to hang out there proves their obsession with this wonder-of-the-world called 'Bangladesh'.

In spite of machinations by every successive Indian administration, we will continue to rise.

The country which almost everyone wrote off in 1971, not only proudly exists, but excels in myriad superior ways compared to its bigger dullard neighbor...

"Jjoley purey holo Chhaar-khar, tobu matha noabar noi....."

"Burnt clean to ashes, yet refuses to lower its head....."

What else can we except from Indians, always trying to be the big bully.
Anyways a war with Myanmar,Bangladesh will benefit because they would be fighting with a unprofessional force.
Burmese tanks don't have wings that would fly over to CHT.
Their mig-29s are nearing its extinction and it's not BVR capable.
As for navy Bns Bangabandhu will lead the navy to destroy Myanmar navy.Myanmar so called stealth frigates don't even have a decent air defence.
And they would have to pass through East Bengal Regiment first...

Don't know about the world, but Bangladesh surely is wonder-of-this-forum.

Take up with the admin that supposedly false-flagger-Bangladeshi issue.

Don't listen to this call-of-the-blood, it would be suicidal.

That's not happening, so don't lose your sleep over it.

Even if you were serious; Bangladesh has developed its separate identity and should remain with that, it won't be compatible with the other part of Bengal or India as a whole.

Deep down West Bengali people know, they are not indian, never can be.Which reflected on the answers of the student.

Why do you want West Bengal people to not be Indian so badly? Let them be.

That's the biggest piece of crock shite to ever come out of your hole and you know that. The question is who knows about W.Bengal worldwide? Does the huge Bengali pop justify its relevancy? You know the answer to that my friend. In the western world Bengalis=Bangladeshi Muslims. Simple.
