Combat Aircraft Projects & Designs - Index in 2nd post

Q-6 is one of unrealized projects strike aircraft of the People's Republic. It was designed by Nanchang Aircraft Factory was renamed later in the Hongdu Aviation Industry Group.The project has developed a long time, but never reached the stage of creating prototypes. The program was initiated in the mid-70s, based on the experience of China's participation in the Vietnam War, namely on the basis of fighting near the Paracel islands, when the Chinese Air Force were unable to provide air support to friendly forces. The aircraft was also to be able to attack naval targets.
In June 1976, senior engineers were summoned to Beijing for a meeting to expedite the development of new aircraft. Have been proposed options for the aircraft version of the shock J-8II, was also the beginning of designing low-altitude attack aircraft JH-7, an analogue of such cars as the Su-24, F-111 and "Tornado" (but this was a project for a far-reaching perspective) and was proposed project Q-6, which decided to develop as the most quickly implemented.. Shortly before the start of the program, China has MiG-23 from Egypt, and so for the new aircraft was invited to a variable sweep wing.
By February 1979 the total project was completed. The initial draft was based on the MiG-23BN, but Air Force and Navy also demanded from the aircraft the ability to actively defend itself. It required the mandatory installation of radar, which was not provided on a purely shock version.And then decided to create a project based on the MiG-23MS. It was decided to use the avionics of the F-111 (it probably is a technological espionage) adapted to Q-6, which eventually led to long-term development and the cancellation of the project.Initially, the size of the aircraft had to be close to the MiG-23MS, but the Chinese electronics industry at the time could not guarantee the minimization of the size of the equipment and as a result of fuselage the size was close to the Su-24. Studies have also shown that the side air intakes will be ineffective and Q-6 became the first Chinese project in podfyuzellyazhnym air intake. Great difficulties also caused the wing sweep and its mechanization. Chinese industry could not cope with the order. And the weight and size were obtained in 12% larger and heavier than similar systems in the MiG-23, thus reducing the payload capacity of fuel tanks and combat machines and the range of another factor appearing to cancel the project. In 1981 he planned to install in an engine WS-6, but it became clear that the thrust 71 kN (122 kN in afterburner) will not be enough.
In 1983 he was offered a modernized version of WS-6G thrust in afterburner 138 kN, but this engine was not will master the Chinese industry. His life was only about 50 hours. As radar was used in the American system of analog AN/APQ-110 used on the F-111 aircraft and gives the ability to fly with rounding terrain. But it was too tough for the Chinese. In 1989, they stopped at all interested in the variable sweep wing, and this, together with the difficulties mentioned above, led to the cancellation of the final project.

Was it a single engined aircraft ? if so why two air inlets when one can do the job ?

the concept was used in many russian designs particularly mig21 upgradation / replacement programmes--

Guizhou LFC-16

(China)

Notes: Unveiled in November 2004, this ambitious project is one of the first private-venture military planes by a Chinese company; unassisted by the government. Obviously based on the MiG-21 “Fishbed”, the LFC-16 features bifurcated intakes, a planar digital radar and canards. Notably, the LFC-16 does not have fly-by-wire; which keeps the cost down. Guizhou claims it can have a flying prototype within 36 months of receiving an order.

The type is intended as a low-cost daylight interceptor, targeted on the export market for countries retiring MiG-21 “Fishbed”s and F-5 Freedom Fighters. It is compatible with existing systems such as the PL-7 AAM, FAB-series iron bombs, and MiG-21 drop tanks.

Supersonic Super Etendard, that would have resulted from the cancellation of the Atar 8K50 engine in 1975 and adoption of the identically-sized afterburning F404-GE-400 engine plus dorsal fuel tanks. Result: +45% thrust and +30% range on internal fuel, and all the good things that go along with that (frees up hardpoints for more weapons, interceptor capability etc). Service entry delayed two years from 1978 to 1980, with Argentina still getting a couple before the Falklands and a larger production run eventually replacing the Crusaders in service...

Multiple sources "confirmed" the existence of this device but the information described here remains to be seen ...
The institute and the 601 Factory 112 have completed the assembly of a prototype fifth-generation and would be in the process of installing the test equipment, so it would be a second type of combat aircraft of the fifth generation after the Chinese J-20 of the Institute 611/Usine 132.
- According to these sources, this new device would have the following visual characteristics -
* For the moment these are Russian engines
* Distance between the two engines is greater than J-20 but smaller than T-50 PAK-FA
* The vertical tail sets the F-22, but with a greater angle (visual) and a slightly smaller
* Canopy with full batten building, such as F-35
* The front has a touch of air similar to that of J-20, but a little more "rounded" on the top
* Air intakes type CARET, not DSI, under the wings and sides of the cell.
* Form the wing together with that of T-50 PAK-FA
* Flat stomach
* Estimated size approximately T-50 and F-22
* Actuators ailerons / spoilers give the impression of being very small, unlike the J-20
* The back is not straight like J-20, rather warped, a little worm raised front and rear (?)
* First 2 prototypes, the first planned flight in late 2011

Is it the famous J-16, and then J-1X or other J-2X?
Unconfirmed sources also say that references to J-15 J-19 are already reserved for units of the Institute 601/Usine 112.

There are only a few months to wait ... Undecided

Edit: If I am not mistaken the new aircraft should be related to two things ... The picture is blurred partly an autobiography of an academician (李天) Institute 601 that I bought last week also on Amazon CN, the other two represent the project "New 93" from the Institute 601 in the 90 '.

Someone just posted a picture of two Chinese scholars in the process of visiting 601 to Shenyang Institute. In the photo a wind tunnel model was blurred but its shape is interesting, it is possible that this is one of the competing configurations of J-20 (611 Institute) time, which is derived from the concept 98-3, and then the metal model J-16

Sometimes the interesting information leaks in China are very discreet and you must be careful to collect the puzzles ... Cool

quoted a letter of thanks that the Factory 132 (ACC) sent the aviation and aerospace university in Beijing, where we learn more interesting information - Some assembly milestones J-20, that there are two units of J-20 ... etc..

. This letter is addressed particularly to a team of researchers developed a new technique for milling and drilling with high precision ultrasonic vibration machining holes between the wings and the cell J-20, a patent application has been filed in November 2010 and it has access to its information from the month of May

In the patent description on the site of the center of Chinese patents, it says that this technique is used in the "High precision machining of chamfers holes between the aircraft skin composite carbon fiber and the fasteners macro-porous titanium laminate. "

The description of this patent at the site of the center of Chinese patent (In Chinese)
