Chinese-American Marine Commits Suicide Due to Brutal Abuse

You dont have any idea, whatsoever, about PTSD now, do you?

I know a lot more than you do, people suffering from PTSD can appear normal, but given the right traumatic circumstances - can cause an episode, it can manifest itself much later.

.
Its sad that the marine chose to kill himself out of depression rather than take some professional help. Service -related trauma is still understandable but because of ribbing by colleagues ????

A very unfortunate and regrettable incident.

Horrendous Torture!

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

If that was horrendous torture, then I am a victim of it, and I also inflicted it.

It's called "The Military."

I suspect the OP had exactly one objective - to flame. Not to sympathize with a mentally ill soldier. It's too late to don some sympathy cloak. Regardless of the soldier's ethnic background, he was a U.S. Marine. Any guesses as to how much genuine sympathy the OP has for this man?

Obligatory: Yes it is sad. Mental illness, because that's what this is, is no respecter of race.

Typical another example of american barbarians. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It looks like their people are becoming criminalised like their govt

Seriously? A similar comparison can be made about religious fanaticism, suicide bombers and the Taliban.

Yes. True. So what was your previous comment about?

I thought - I was explaining about PTSD?

What was done was typical of the frustration that happens when the war is becoming a status quo and there is fear that the man is endangering the safety of the rest of the troops by sleeping on guard in a war zone, which is more dangerous than a conventional war since terrorists can attack without the certainty of the matrix of a formal attack.

Notwithstanding, the treatment is illegal and cannot be resorted to whatever be the provocation.

The person sleeping on duty should have been chargesheeted as per military law and a legal punishment given. The consequences could have been severe.

Maybe that is why the soldiers took law into their own hands so that he is not punished through the heavy penalties of military law. Notwithstanding, the kicking etc is totally illegal even if it maybe a common thing in the US Marines.

The other commentary is that it also shows how sensitive and soft the US soldiers are wherein they take their lives instead of making a formal report to the Commanding Officer that one is being abused.

The military isn't a corporation. The enlisted ranks police themselves 75% of the time. If all a commander ever did was deal with hurt feelings, nothing would get done.

There are obviously limits. An investigation will be done, and if there is wrong-doing, there will be punishment.

You want to "open up with both barrels"?

You do realize that this is an AMERICAN soldier who committed suicide?

Do you think this fanatic will ever consider an American life?

Hell no!

As long as it remotely smells like China, he hates it to the core.

And we thank you for showing what wuss you are...

Marines face punishment for hazing that preceded guard's suicide - latimes.com
The two lance corporals then ordered Lew to do pushups, crunches and other exercises, according to the report. One of the Marines stomped on Lew's leg and another kicked dirt on him. Both allegedly berated him for sloppy performance.
Am sure the soldiers in the Pakistani Army are glad that you are not among their ranks.

While the military is not a corporation, I take it that one will also concede that it is neither a concentration camp or a Gulag.

I cannot comment on the US military, but in the British and Indian Army, there is a positive approach to discipline demanding a sense of fairplay and justice. Abusing any person in the manner the Chinese American soldier has been treated is not only unacceptable but the resolution is also taken to be a command responsibility since maintenance of morale is such a command responsibility.

I am not too sure that being beaten and kicked black ad blue is merely 'hurt feelings'.

Is it American barbarism?

Are you sure that this is commonplace in America?

All due respect to you, but if there is a sliding scale of analogy, the military would be more towards a corporation than a concentration camp. Even in a civilian corporation, and am currently in one, the ranks take care of themselves whenever possible. We would ask a colleague if there is something in his personal life that is affecting his professional life and the group. Most people are receptive to this solicitation and will somewhat open up.

These US Marines are not in a place where people can afford the time to either solicit feelings nor allow their feelings to affect their performance. Lew fell asleep on guard duty in a combat zone. Not in basic training when guard duty is part of training. Men could needlessly die and it is not a stretch to say that the greater military goals could be adversely affected. Your own service should know what I said is true. So in a combat zone where every man is needed, even a substandard performer, a unit may not be able to stop whatever they were doing to formally charge said substandard performer and ship him to the rear for administrative actions.

This thread is not about this poor Marine's suicide but about his ethnicity and how his tragic death is being exploited for the purpose of creating racial animosity. According to the Chinese members here, the fact that he is a US citizen made him a 'race traitor' already so the intention is expose white Marines who 'torture' a Chinese purely out of racism and to make that typical of the US.

Dude, you seriously need a thorough lesson in English comprehension. Thats all I have to say now. Its your problem if you are unable to understand or misunderstand posts in this forum.
And if you make fun of Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives, it shows what and who you are!

Forgive him O Lord, for he knows not what he does. ;)

Don't blame him for what he posts. Seriously.

I was merely commenting on the military law issues.

It is rather obtuse of anyone to turn a purely military issue into a racial one.

In fact, I don't find anything racial. Sleeping on the post is not something that is what Chinese do nor being kicked around is an American way to solve issues.

It is purely individual in nature.

Note my comment asking as to how this could be do glibly termed as American barbarism!
