The PLA Admiral did not say that it was "inferior" to the F/A-18E/F, but the following: (1) the J-15's air combat capability is superior to that of the F/A-18E/F, and (2) the J-15's A2G capability is slightly inferior to that of the F/A-18E/F since the carriers use ski ramp launch methods now.

Liaoning is used for enforcing the China seas, for that it has plenty of range. Also contributes to CO2 buildup. Liaoning has Type 1130 CIWS guns and FL-3000N CIWS missiles. American aircraft carriers only have Phalanx 6 barrel 20 mm CIWS guns, much weaker than Liaoning's CIWS. Liaoning has phased array radars from Type 052C. American aircraft carriers lack phased array radars.

Liaoning are accompanied by Type 052D destroyers, which are more advanced than American destroyers and cruisers.
