Census 2011: Indian population increased by 181 million

.
Holy 181m you guys added more then the entire population of Bangladesh in just 10 years!

. . . .
It is creditable for India to undertake regular censuses without fail, notwithstanding its geographical vastness, the remoteness of many areas, the difficult terrain encompassing deserts, high altitude, mountains, plains, forests, jungles etc and the vast and diverse population.

India is a good examples to countries which do not undertake regular censuses, wherein they suffer since economic and social planning gets skewed in such countries.

The problem is that there are some religions (or sects) which does not permit contraception or family planning methods and the clergy has a strong hold over them and such a hold is not confined to the illiterate sector alone.

if only sanjay gandhi was still alive...he was very serious with compulsory vasectomy and harsh majors of population control..
rising literacy rate is fine but its still not enough....i wish it was at least 80%....

While undertaking a gargantuan exercise of the like of census of India, there are bound to be many cases of 'double counting', this will be offset by the cases of 'non counting' which will also happen in the major cities. Like wise, a small percentage of the population is expected to be temporarily abroad and is not included in the counting even though it maybe expected back soon as others will be going out at the same time. This is the floating population which is too minuscule to affect the national or regional trends.

Agreed.
However the concerned officials should come up with some plan to prevent such 'double counting' and 'non counting' as with Urbanization, movement of population from small towns and rural areas to cities will increase in future, and ensure that such dependency on "Law of Averages" is minimum.
