Can We Really Consider Urdu as a National Language of Pakistan?

Hello there again buddy :p:
I was surprised to know that only 8% of the Pakistani population speaks Urdu as their mother tongue. As we all know that Urdu is the national language of Pakistan.
Yes only ~8% of population consider Urdu as their mother tongue in Pakistan. But since almost all of their provinces can now understand or speak Urdu, I don't see why Pakistan can't consider Urdu as their national language.

And there are many other languages that are spoken by higher percentage of people as their mother tongue. So why was Urdu even made the national language of Pakistan even when there were many alternatives left?
Since Urdu was considered language of Muslims of Subcontinent and the fact that Pakistan was created for the Indian Muslims, it didn't get much resistance back then?

But today why this question of Urdu as their national language arises is because the narrative has been changed by Pakistanis and today they argue that their country was actually formed for the people of regions Sindh, Punjab, KP/FATA, Baluchistan and Kashmir. Funny because once they forced Bangladeshis to learn Urdu.

For comparison, Hindi have a much larger percentage of people speaking it as mother tongue in India but still it is not the National language of the nation. Infact, in India, there is no national Language and have only official languages.
You can't compare the position of Urdu in Pakistan vis-a-vis the position of Hindi in India because unlike Urdu, Hindi in India is not even the second language of many states. And even if people in non Hindi speaking states can speak or understand Hindi unofficially because of Bollywood penetration, they take pride in their own mother tongue.

People who are so much concerned about the unity of India and making Hindi as national language should let time take its own course. Because of how much wide spread Bollywood is, Hindi (Hindustani actually) will eventually take over other languages, but it will take a hell lot of time, probably hundreds of years? (Or maybe English will consume Hindi as well)

What majority of people today in India speak is actually Hindustani, not pure Hindi, and I bet Pakistanis can't understand pure Urdu as well, unless did a professional course. There are some differences in vocabulary for sure, so we can safely say both North Indians and Pakistanis speak Indian Hindustani and Pakistani Hindustani (if that makes sense). But because of mixture of English with Hindustani, its actually Hinglishtani :P? This amalgamation comes at a cost of not being able to speak proficiently in any of them.

Urdu is very important in maintain unity in Pakistan. we cannot force regional languages on each other. Hence Urdu become the norm of communication in the country.

Lol, It's not the hate for one language. It's only when they try to impose that language on others.

If Hindi speaking people who make up the majority in India decide to make Hindi the national language, then it becomes an issue. There is no such thing. Nobody hates a language only because of the hassle of learning a new language and/or preserving the local language.

The official language in India was Persian until 1832. Thereafter, it was English, until 1947; technically, until 1950. Thereafter, there was no official language in the Dominion of India; it was Urdu from 1947 onwards in the Dominion of Pakistan.

The Indian National Congress was formed in 1886 (it may be of interest to work out which century that was). There was never any protest against Urdu, as Urdu was never the official language before 1947, and was the official language after 1947 only in the Dominion of Pakistan.

Persian is very beautiful language and i say more polite and purer than urdu, it's distant cousin. only due to richness and nobleness of Persian it was adopted by upper class of Various Indian Empires and people from different religious background in Medieval period. from Turkish Mughals to the Sikhs and from sikhs to Hindu nobles all adopted it, cherished it and loved it.

even great poet from my own community, sir Allama Iqbal Sapru who wrote countless poems such as "Sare Jahan se Accha Hindustan hamara" largely used it to express his feeling over Hindi or Urdu.

sir Allama Iqbal is greatly respected by India, Pakistan and Bangladesh for his contribution in forming a Modern Traditional Culture when south Asia was under British Raj.

This is a list of the languages recognised by the Indian Constitution, as being useful bases for the enriching of the official language of the Union; in the list, no. 6 and no. may be of particular interest in this discussion.
