Breaking news: salman khan convicted sentenced to 5 year in jail

Actually the really ridiculous situation here is seen when you make that comparison. Salman Khan is facing how many years for an act that at best can be attributed to utter recklessness? 10? As opposed to 5 that Sanjay Dutt was sentenced to for an act of willful commission and being involved in one of India's biggest terrorist attack & hobnobbing with the very terrorists who remain India's most wanted?

Salman Khan does deserve punishment, I'm not sure what quantum would be correct but Sanjay Dutt should have been given a much tougher sentence.

I hope they hang Salman, I would have said I hope they hang Sanjay too, except that the extent to which Sanjay went to obstruct justice is weirdly lesser than what this b$#^&d has done.

Though we all are big skeptics towards everything in our country including justice. Now with Salman, Jayalalitha and Lalu, it proves that we are heading towards an age where the rich and mighty aren't as secure as before. Sure, we're still a long way away, but no permanent progress happens overnight.

You cannot kill people and then donate money to charity and claim to be a saint.

Salman is not exactly a "Responsible citizen" :P ....... the case against him killing a blackbuck is still going on.

The last thing you can say about Salman Khan is Responsible citizen. Even in this case, didn't he try to pin the blame on his driver and also try to buy out victims/witnesses and subvert the whole judicial process?

About time he is put behind bars. Any other person in his place would have long been sentenced!

It was also hilarious when Kashmir government tried to sign him as J&K ambassador for tourism.

Your comparison of Sanjay Dutt with Kasab is outrageous. I am sorry but you are just responding for the sake of argument thats why you cannot see a difference between a person carrying illegal license gun and a person who under the influence of alcohol crushed a homeless person under his car and a person who cold blooded murdered more than 150 innocent lives..

Not as outrageous as you suggest. It wasn't a case of an illegal license gun (whatever that is), it was getting 3 AK 56 rifles along with a box of grenades (he returned the grenades & 2 of the rifles) from terrorists - Dawood & Co., who then carried out an audacious attack against the the people of Bombay/Mumbai & the Indian state. This was a man who could call up these terrorists & ask them for such weapons & have them oblige. You think you & I could do that if we wanted? You need a special relationship to exist for you to be able to do that. Not some case of an "illegal license gun". Who knows how many died by the 2 rifles & the box of grenades which he gave back?

You were discussing age & that is the same for any & all cases, nothing special about Sanjay Dutt who was 33 years old when this happened. People have been hung (Afzal Guru) for giving material support to terrorists for an attack. You are getting way too emotional with your answers. Sanjay Dutt got away easily.

Sanjay didn't do less, his father who has a minister in the UPA government pretty much fell at everyone's feet to help him out. If Sanjay Dutt got off lightly, it was because everyone felt sorry for his father & used whatever influence that could be used. Salman Khan has no such luck, therefore crude methods like fabricating stories & buying off witnesses were his only options.

Breaking news : Salman khan sentenced to 5 year in jail

Hit-and-run case: Salman Khan gets 5 years in jail
IndiaToday.in New Delhi, May 6, 2015 | UPDATED 13:35 IST

Salman KhanActor Salman Khan was on Wednesday pronounced guilty in 2002 hit-and-run case, bringing an end to a 13-year-old trial against him. The actor gets five years in jail.
While pronouncing the verdict, the Mumbai session court judge said Khan was driving the car without a licence and he was under the influence of alcohol. The court even made a reference to Alistair Pereira case.

"You were driving the car, without a licence and you were under the influence of alcohol," the judge told Salman, who was present in the court.

Denying the charges, the 49-year-old actor said he wasn't driving the car. He will now be taken straight to Arthur Road jail from the court. The Mumbai Police has taken the custody of the actor.

Soon after the judgement, the actor's lawyers even claimed that Khan is suffering from heart ailment.

Khan, who was facing charges of culpable homicide, has now been charged with killing one person and injuring four others by ramming his SUV into a bakery shop in suburban Bandra, in his white Land Cruiser.

A tight security blanket was thrown around the court when sessions judge DW Deshpande pronounced the judgement on Tuesday. Only the lawyers, media and the court staff were allowed to be present.

Ahead of the verdict, Salman's sister Arpita, both his brothers Arbaaz and Sohail Khan as well as Congress leader Baba Siddiqui met the 49-year-old actor.

"We are all eagerly waiting for the verdict and we hope all will go well," Salman's father and noted scriptwriter Salim Khan had said.

A Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate, who conducted the trial under the lesser charge of rash and negligent driving, which carries a maximum punishment of two years, had in 2012 slapped the more serious offence of culpable homicide and committed the matter to the sessions court.

While the prosecution has insisted that a drunk Khan was driving the Toyota Land Cruiser that ran over the victims sleeping on the pavement outside the bakery in suburban Bandra, the actor has claimed it was his driver Ashok Singh who was behind the wheel. Khan's driver, Ashok Singh, has endorsed the defence's claim.

The defence also argued that police had not obtained any finger prints from the steering wheel to find out who was driving the vehicle.

Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat has alleged that Khan was driving the vehicle after consuming alcohol at a bar, a charge denied by the actor, who said he had just a glass of water.

Nurullah Mehboob Sharif was killed in the accident in which Kalim Mohammed Pathan, Munna Malai Khan, Abdullah Rauf Shaikh and Muslim Shaikh had been injured.

The defence counsel also claimed that the accident was caused after the driver lost control due to tyre burst. He also said the road was under repair and stones lay scattered all over the place.
