Breaking, K-8P qualifies for combat

There is no use of further upgrading and burdening K-8P when a far better and technologically superior solution exist in form of L-15 which simulates JF-17 features in many ways.

3-axis quadruplex digital FBW are expected to be standard. In addition, large leading edge root extensions (LERX) similar to those on Yak-130 as well as a large vertical tailfin are expected to give the aircraft a high AOA (>30°), which will be useful in simulating certain high-AOA maneuvers of J-10 and J-11.

Sir, I don't think that by any chance and current developments, even a single leak, we are going for L-15 any sooner however, this platform is no doubt superior to K-8P but still not that cost effective. Pakistan was a potential buyer but since no news and L-15 price was US$ 14.8M (2008) per unit and also we are going to have JF-17B as well. K-8P can do the job against slow moving targets with PL-5 and other hand we will be flying JF-17B as an advance trainer.

Sir L-15 was offered to PAF quite long ago and even it was ferried to a version of Dubai Airshow via Karachi by first extensively flying it inside Pakistan. Even it landed at Dubai with a PAF Pilot manning the back seat and was escorted by PAF C-130. But there were few shortcomings noticed back then. PAF was seriously considering to induct it as LIFT but with many other factors two main ones were high cost and logistical support issues (L-15 was not inducted in PLA AF at that time). K-8P has been modified for special purposes and seems PAF is very serious using K-8P for that role when required as it suits that role the best.

Good catch @Windjammer so it is PL-5E-II. Let the confirmation be followed.

If its PL-5II on K-8P then I wud be really overjoyed.

Depending on own or customer requirements, Installing American, Chinese or French missiles wouldn't be an issue, the F-6/MiG-19 is often given as prime example of Pakistani ingenuity and capability.... It was a Russian design fighter built by the Chinese, it had French avionics, the pilot sat on a British Martin Baker ejection seat and fired American missiles....all wired and fitted by Pakistani engineers.

Not BD but Venezuela AF sir Ji, and the blue ones are just training rounds.

With only 60% SU-30s operational, i doubt they will be the only ones fighting India's wars, besides K-8 is meant for a point defence.

It will become capable to provide CAS to defending troops now. But more upgrade is required.

Yesterday I was wondering why PAF do not improve K8 as ground strike aircraft and today there is news that AAM was test fired from K8.
Strange, very strange "modification" in my opinion.
We should enhance its ground strike abilities. It can carry light rocket pods but it should be improved to carry LGB too, or hellfire racks for anti tank role ......

An OLS or similar system from China or Russia should be purchased for K-8s also Cirit and Mizrak-U with related systems should be integrated to make it potent CAS bird.

In what world would we use the K-8 against another Air Force? Don't make radical assumptions.

Dropping bombs even make more sense .. what could firing AAMs can accomplish from K-8P ... it's just a trainer

In extreme conditions A squadron of K8 armed with AAM is enough to deal with Aerial threat from entire Afghanistan.
Super Tunaco , Mi35, Mi17, Little birds .... can also shot down UAV and transport aircrafts flying at low altitude.
Above all, the experience you gained by integrating a weapon on aircraft which is not designed to carry one does count a lot.
While rest of combat squadrons will be free to face threats from IAF .....
