Western nations urged Saudi Arabia to invest in the endorsement of Wahhabism during the Cold War era to prevent the Soviet Union from gaining influence in the Muslim world, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said in a recent interview. He also admitted the kingdom “lost track” of it.

The Saudi-backed spread of Wahhabism — the most strict and violent branch of Islam — started because Western nations asked Saudi Arabia to help counter the Soviet Union, bin Salman said in an interview to Washington Post.

Riyadh invested in mosques and madrasas overseas to prevent the USSR from gaining influence in Muslim countries, he said on March 22 in an interview on March 22 that was reportedly initially kept off record.
He admitted that Saudi Arabia lost track of the effort, too. "We have to get it all back," he said.

However, today most support for Wahhabis comes not from Saudi Government per se, but from Saudi-based "foundations."

Speaking with the Washington Post, the Crown Prince denied that he met with Jared Kushner, the White House adviser and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, saying it would be "really insane" for him to trade classified information with Kushner or to try to use him to advance Saudi interests within the Trump administration.

He also commented on the war in Yemen, for which Riyadh receives a large amount of criticism, as the war has caused a major humanitarian catastrophe, including a famine and cholera epidemic.

According to bin Salman, Saudi Arabia has not passed up "any opportunity" to improve the humanitarian situation in the country.

"There are not good options and bad options. The options are between bad and worse," he said.

The Saudi-led coalition seeks to return the ousted Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi to the Yemeni presidency, but is faced with serious opposition from Houthi rebels.

While the interview initially was done off-record, the Saudi embassy agreed to publish certain portions, Washington Post notes.

Hahahah we all knew that since the 80s! A Kingdom which was made by the orders of British Masons. What else would it do? Wahabism invented to manipulate Islam, nothing else! The founder of Wahabism, Abdul Wahab is a well known British Zion Agent who worked to destroy Ottomans in Hejaz. It's not something we didnt knew. Unfortunately, we let US use Pakistan to sponsor Wahabism!

.
why blame west? we must own few bad things if we are to own good things for ourselves
personally I don't think west really cares about Schisms in Muslim faith Saudis had the money and influence to spread their brand of Islam with or without western say in this.

again in my personal opinion, Saudis became more aggressive when Ayatullahs of Iran set themselves on a world conquest to spread their political shiasm to the world with Pakistan as the first target of their proxy war with saudis resulting in countless loss of innocent lives and fragmentation of our society on sectarian fault lines of otherwise a relatively "tolerant" society compared to present times

Unfortunately, we let US use Pakistan to sponsor Wahabism!
and let Iranians use Pakistan as well to fight Saudi influence resulting in the loss of lives of so many precious lives .
in Quetta not even Sunnis are spared who have some relations or friendships with Hazara community
and enemies of Pakistan are taking advantage of that situation and why wont they? they did it before in east Pakistan and even if they dont physically break us they have done tremendous harm psychologically

over the years this sectarian hatred was used by politicians as well as dictators feeding the sectarian monsters into the fiends that played football with the skulls of our soldiers and butchered our children in APS.

Saudi funded groups like LeJ, SSP, ASWJ believe killing those Sunnis who do not term Shias as "Kafir. Meanwhile majority of Pakistani Sunnis do not term Shias with such remarks. Hence it proves that LeJ SSP ASWJ etc aren't even Sunni but just tools. I remember my uncle telling us how Saudis asked Zia to release Haq Nawaz Jhangvi during the 80s who was imprisoned for Hate Speech. He was a close witness to the fire that was in making which destroyed us later. I believe that Wahabism is a forced sect inserted within Sunnism. It just a manipulation tool by the British Agents.

While you just brought Iran, let me know if Iranian funded Mullahs in Pakistan chanted "Kafir Kafir Sunni Kafir, or Iranian paid Mullahs killed Sunnis? except the so-called Sunnis like Haq Nawaz Jhangvi, Maulana Zia ur Rehman, Ali Sher Haideri etc.. You can't merge two different facts within.

This is the most outdated and overly used counter argument which no longer works. I wonder if you ever went through the book "Profiles of Intelligence" by Brig Tirmazi of the ISI.

@jamahir

your P.O.V has been approved
congratulations :D

Thanks. Yes, the statement was right from the horse's mouth. :enjoy:

And now we must wait for him or other wealthy Wahabis to say that they funded Deobandi and Ikhwaani mosques and madrassas from Africa to Russia to Europe to South East Asia.

P.S : Let's also not forget the Iranian mullahs.

thats what I am pointing at. lets not be selective in criticism
granted that violent Muslim extremism at industrial scale links back to so called Wahabism or Saudi sponsored / inspired version of Sunni Islam but since 79 the Iranian clergy has been anything but moderate. stoning of people blamed for unlawful sex , execution of political prisoners and persecution of entire population and then exporting their version to Pakistan in the shape of Imamia students organisation, Tehrik Jaferia, Lashker mohamadi and funding of Hizbullah in Lebanon and Houtis in Yemen but they dont even come close to the carnage world has faced in the shape of Al Qaeda , Al- Akhwan and Taliban who share the extremist views originating from Saudi Arabia.

the Prince is courageous to say what he has said because he has annoyed West and his own extremist clergy simultaneously I wish he can look for a nonviolent solution to Yemen, the people being blown though areal bombardment of Saudi and Emarati airforces are no lesser humans than those in Syria that are facing Russian and Syrian areal carnage.

. .
Of course they funded as minority sect deobandi/wahabi mullahs in punjab became filthy rich over night with help of establishment.

ISO was formed in 1972, TJP was formed in 1979 before the revolution. So both of your claims are dead here. Iran did arm and fund Hezbollah. So you advocate Israeli Invasion? Was anyone else powerful enough to stop them? Don't tell me that you're some "broad minded" patriot who supports diplomatic relations with Israel for the "betterment of Pakistan".

MBS is very simple and naive . He need a good team of advisors. I must say he is talking straight and admitting still rogue elements inside KSA are not under his control. Well good luck MBS, keep working for the eradication of extremism from country. But , Afghan war indirectly hurt KSA and directly hurt Pakistan and still hurting due to imported ideology which came with petrodollar during Afghan war.
