The report says that in accordance with the Article-V of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1994, while no customs duty can be levied on transit goods, charges for infrastructure, administrative and other services as per international practices may be levied on the same.

The core committee has proposed to levy user fee, infrastructure development surcharge, congestion charge, air pollution charge, river pollution charge, noise charge, accident charge, security charge, administrative charge and institutional charge on transit goods.

The committee also proposed to levy customs and land port fee, foreign vehicle entry fee and fuel tax on transit cargoes. It also suggested taking bank guarantee on transit cargoes which is equivalent to total tax payable on import.

GATT?? Technically, we're providing corridor, not transit (though we call it transit all too often) - so GATT's got nothing to do with it.

We get 1 billion dollars on loan from you, which we can mostly spend on indian goods. We must use the money to build hundreds of kilometres of road, railways and dredge waterways, improve ports etc.

After we built them we must pay back india the 1 billion plus interest

All the infrastructure build will provide more job opportunities in Bangladesh plus you will recover that money in 6-7 Years if every thing go according to plans. Plus Bangladeshi too will use that infrastructure for themselves particularly the port and roads for export import and lastly you guys are not paying for any rail lines.

Yes that what I want to say, no transit but trade corridor and you guys will make money by lots of taxes your government id going to levy on that. It is utter bullshit you guys are asking zero dime from India. BNP and Jamaatis are making useless issues in your country.

Listen bro, we are getting our machineries, raw materials from india. That will increase indian employment. We will be only hiring labourers to build the roads.

If it takes 6 or 7 years, we will have to pay india a huge interest fee from that loan.

Just because you are building the 10km railway in bd territory does not mean you are revamping the whole bd railway network

dude, we get taxes and stuff but we have to give them back to you as the interest rate

The 1 billion loan is for Ashuganj Port, means you guys will get one extra port to easen the burden of Chittagong. I don't see Bangladesh is losing anything. Otherwise take no loan from us, provide us service through Chittagong.

exactly! Burma BD clash will be a Kargil type incident where Artillery will play a crucial role........

not kargil type!!!.......in kargil as far as i know pakistan did not use it's airforce(to claim that pak was not involved1).....but in this case myanmar will surely use migs and this is a major factor.......this will be a full fledged war and not a sneek attack like kargil!
