Banning google years ago. The most farsighted decision made by Chinese government

Shouldn't European and other countries follow China's step? Leave google and american softwares away before too late.
the rest of the world can't do that (Exclude China), they don't have any others platform. this is about eco-system that make you stay.

It looks like - days are not very far when Indigenous operating systems and chipsets would be considered essential part of defense by countries like drones and missiles.

Are you drunk or something?

Refer to post # 2: "Shouldn't European and other countries follow China's step..."

I do not give a damn about European chances. You are free to remove Google from your life, but you do not speak for all in this matter.

In your reply, you didn't exclude Europe, in fact, you didn't exclude anyone. Who the **** are you to speak for anyone but Pakistan? Where have I ever spoken for Pakistan? Are you stupid? Bloody patsy!

I'm ready to jump ship and adapt to any blockbuster English internet platform that huawei comes up with(I use baidu for my Chinese platform needs)

Yeah me too. I live in the West and hardly touch Google search engine. I use Google Play Store to download Firefox so I can use Firefox to download other apps from the web.

Shut your trap, and mind your own business. My posts/views are not for Europeans.

Your helplesness. :enjoy:
Go troll someone else. This will not fly with me.

I don't know about Pakistan. But here we don't use Google maps. We use waze.
Hmm. I have no experience with Waze, and not sure about its coverage in other countries including Pakistan. Google Maps is global and accessible on one click on the other hand.

Many Pakistani are using Google Maps for navigation because majority have smartphones with Android + Google Maps installed and configured by default. Uber, in particular, have made travelling in cities very very convenient for a large number of people here in Pakistan. Public transport arrangements in Pakistani cities are underwhelming, traffic conditions are increasingly chaotic, and cabs are very expensive otherwise.

As another member pointed out earlier, Google is not just an application but an eco-system with lot of services, uses and benefits; not feasible to abandon it.

China might be in the position to afford localized solutions however.

Then why the need for VPN by so many Chinese?
First, there are not "many".
Second, the US is not equal to the western world. The European market is occupied by your IT companies.

We have been learning English since elementary school, and we have read articles about companies like Facebook and Youtube in English newspapers. So some of us will use VPN to connect the US websites such as Facebook because of curiousity.

But none of us would replace weibo with Facebook / bilibili with Youtube.
Some American IT companies can do business in China, such as Amazon, but they are not as competitive as Alibaba. Then it left the Chinese market by itself.
Now China's own websites will not lose to any American counterparts.

Yes, there are.

There are enough that Chinese gives each other guides on how to use VPN to access web sites forbidden by the Party. Am willing to say that YOU know how to use VPN.

Not out of curiosity. You want to know more than just what the Party feeds you. That alone is enough to make an indictment of your system.
