What's new

Bangladesh's revenue receipts increase 21pc.

Leave automobiles, explain smartphones and electronics.
Do you have any recent data on smartphone sale in both countries or household electronic products? Bangladesh may be behind India in these regards but I believe Bangladesh is catching up fast. Just because only recently Bangladesh's nominal per capita income crossed Indians does not mean it already have matched in all economic indicators. It will take times. Most importantly, Bangladesh's per capita GDP in Purchasing power parity(PPP) is still 20% less than India. When we compare living standard, we need to think about it because living standard can only be measured in PPP dollar, not in nominal Dollar.

Just simple google will tell what each buy. India spends $41 billion in electronics and Bangladesh $1.42 billion as far as I remember.

I personally wouldn't be so mean to Indians but the level of coping is just too much at times. Indians on defence.pk are a special breed are just bragging about their complete failures they have such a high gdp per capita in ppp and yet for some reason instead of spending the money on food they are starving to death and doing worse than North Korea in malnutrition. You should realize that this is only a small segment of hyper nationalist Indians online who have to compare to third world countries their supposed economic might not all are like this. I personally know many well adjusted people who aren't so neurotic in real life.

Also using kala as a insult is a bit much don't do that colourism is not a good thing to we are dark skin as well
Well you are new here.

Talk with these slum dogs for next few weeks you will realize there mindset.

Not sure about your age but even early 2000 when i was very young indians start bragging about there shithole great economy....after two deacdes yes it is butt of a joke when they brag about anything.

reason entire world troll them being toilet less super power for a reason...stereotype exists for a reason.

Motorcycle sale was 5 lakh units in 2019. It came down significantly during 2020 due to COVID-19 but now regaining the former growth trend.
As I have said, comparing Bangladesh with India on personal automobile is not fair. Bangladesh's domestic motorcycle industry is very recent only about 5 years, compared to long established sector in India. It is only recently that locally manufactured motorcycle's price is coming down to normal range. Few years ago, motorcycles in Bangladesh were sold 4/5 times the price Indian are used to. So it will take some time before Bangladesh's motorcycle sale match India per capita wise.

Indians cannot afford the prices we buy motorcycles at.

Price due to duty is almost twice that of India. Which means sales is of course lower.
Marathi, the biggest slum can be found in your own backyard. Mumbai Slum

World's largest slum next to Mumbai Int'l airport. It's called Dharavi.

Big reminder to the Indians like @Protest_again and @SMX 3.0 you are still at the exact same place we are. Wherever this superiority complex comes just drop it.

In what logic does it say that Bangladesh smartphone or delivery truck usage, air travel numbers and home electricity consumption would be any less than India? When our per capita real GDP is higher than that of India?

Why does it bother Indians like you so much? Are we carrying containers to ships on people's heads? And talking to each other using strings and soup cans?

Because the data available says it's low. Much lower, in fact.

Smartphone sales: 150 million vs 6.82 million @Homo Sapiens
Air transport, passengers carried: 168 million VS 6 million
Air transport, domestic: 138 million vs 1 million
Truck sales: 374,000 vs 8318

What's happening in your country does not bother us until you start making all those ridiculous claims.

Also, why does India's spending on its space program bother you? Are we dropping spent stages over Bangladesh or something?

Ultimately, Indian trade will take a hit in Bangladesh against trade from other places. Nothing anyone in India can do about that. It is as inevitable as the sun which rises from the East and sets in the West.

As I said earlier on another thread, I will take projections seriously when you (or even my own country for that matter) achieve at the least 50% of the target. At present, Bangladeshi exports are too dependent on RMG. Let's see when it'll diversify.

Eventually when demand requires, we will set up our own brands for cars/trucks/suvs too. Some of it is already happening.

Nothing of that sort is happening- your CV & two-wheeler sales are dominated by Indian manufacturers, though the volumes are low.

No one sensible would invest to set up ''own brands'' with sufficient localization or design capabilities for a fraction of that already tiny volume. Simply not worth it.

Sensing this, Indian motorcycle and truck/bus/chassis manufacturers have set up shop locally and have been assembling here from CKD for decades.

I guess the ''assembly from CKD going on for decades'' is a clear Indication of future trend, as no significant level of localization was achieved for two decades. The low volumes & lack of local vendors will continue to be a problem.

Have you compared your numbers to China's? On anything? ANYTHING??

Last time I checked, this wasn't the Chinese defence forum. Maybe I should recheck now.

India stopped being Bangladesh' gatekeeper many decades ago

On the contrary, the statements of Bangladeshi FM on vaccine export stoppage by us is a clear indication that Bangladesh will continue to be a friendly neighbor.

India too is an LDC.... your ignorence is stratospheric.

In the 70s when LDC designation was created countries with large population was given a choice to self designate.

India and pakistan chose to be developing and BD chose to be LDC. Your level of development was no better than BD then and now is worse.

Nice try, but India was never classified as an LDC.

A country is classified among the Least Developed Countries if it meets three criteria.

  • Poverty – adjustable criterion based on GNI per capita averaged over three years.
  • Human resource weakness (based on indicators of nutrition, health, education and adult literacy).
  • Economic vulnerability (based on instability of agricultural production, instability of exports of goods and services, economic importance of non-traditional activities, merchandise export concentration, handicap of economic smallness, and the percentage of population displaced by natural disasters).
Please do look up the third criteria & do tell me how India satisfied that ever.

Yeah, I got it. The same stratospheric ''ignorence'' with which you consider single-AD-unit-military BAngladesh as some major power. lol.
BTW, Bangladesh is the 5th largest mobile market in the Asia Pacific.

Are you dumb? you seriously comparing population of 1.4B to 160M people?
So what you want us to do? Buy 10 smartphones per person.

150 million/7 million is equal to 1.4 billion/160million? Or lower?

Marathi, the biggest slum can be found in your own backyard. Mumbai Slum

I do understand that you're ''statistically challenged'' but still,

India: 35%
Bangladesh: 47%
Who give this slumdog access to the internet?
I thought internet is banned in mumbai slum?

I was rather amused to know that they have internet in 47% slumdog-desh with 7 million smartphones sold annually.
Now notice they harping on BBS data lol. Yet IMF world Bank and ADB never ask these questions.

lol...

Complete with complaints about IMF & WB being neo-colonialist for calling out inaccuracies in BBS data.

Also, this gem...

BBS stats have immense political and economic ramifications and they are being managed in a way to provide BD maximum benefit with international funders and foreign investors.

Indians cannot afford the prices we buy motorcycles at.

Price due to duty is almost twice that of India. Which means sales is of course lower.

Trucks as well? You lot are good at finding excuses for everything lol.

Bangladeshis don't need domestic air travel that much. Because Dhaka lies at the geographic center from where road network radiated in all direction. People can go to majority of districts within a few hours by Bus or train. Now any Indian who want to travel between Delhi and Bengaluru for example, either have to spend 30-40 hours in train, or buy a plane ticket. So many prefer purchasing an airplane ticket. India have many budget airlines, plane tickets are not much pricier than a rail ticket. But in Bangladesh, things are different, there is no budget airlines, jet fuel is heavily taxed by govt., so air travel is costly.

Now look at the data you have presented here in a slightly different way. India's total air passenger is 168 million and domestic passenger is 138 million, that means, 30 million are international passenger from india. On the other hands, Bangladesh have total 6 million air passengers, out of it only 1 million is domestic, so International passengers here is 5 million. Now compare 30 million vs 5 million. It is obvious that, Bangladeshis may travel less by plane within the country(reasons I have mention already), but Bangladesh's international air passenger number proportionately more than India.

Bragging is indicative of the need to paper/plaster over the deep humiliation and inferiority complex most Indians have - at being dead last in the world in a lot of measuring benchmarks.

Take the current topic for example. They are even behind Bangladesh in smartphone penetration. I posted the link above. By the way, that rate is half that of China. So much for Mahaan.

The day will come (soon I hope) when we exceed India in all relevant benchmarks. I do not see that as a problem. Of course relevancy means, we probably won't waste money on missiles, space exploration etc. when 50%~60% of folks go to bathroom in the open, gotta have the priorities straight.

The fact they have to come here to brag to show BD such a small country compare to them is truly hilarious. cause when they compare to any OTHER major economy since its butt of jokes. And yet they claim to be next china keep harping about it every where.

After 20 years when it will still be even more poorer then BD they will come up with newer prediction and new target and new excuse. This is what they do best.

As i said India was shit hole for last 75 years will remain poor shit hole next 75 years.
Wholeheartedly agree.
Good. That tell you the future. If BD is a shit hole and india has lower GDP. What should i call it then? what is worse then shithole ha ha...
