Another uprising brewing in Tamilnadu

TRICHY: People from 20 villages in Pudukkottai on Friday staged a protest against the hydrocarbon project mooted by the Union government in Pudukkottai and Karaikal districts.

It all started a few days ago when villagers found oil oozing out of bore wells dug by ONGC. According to the villagers, bore wells were dug across Neduvasal, Kallikollai, Vanakkankadu Karukkakurichi and Kottaikadu. However, there were no developments in the successive years.

"Oil oozing out of a bore well in Vanakkankadu village has been polluting agricultural lands following which villagers are panicked over losing their livelihood," said Rajakumaran, a youth from Pudukkottai, who participatd in the agitation. Until the government announces scrapping of the project, we will go on an indefinite protest, he said.

"Apart from the villages where bore wells were dug, the adjoining villages too have expressed solidarity and are likely to join the protests," said S Shanmugam, a student agitator from H H Rajahs College, Pudukkottai.

Following protests by villagers at Neduvasal a couple of days ago, students of H H Rajahs College shunned classes and staged a protest on Tuesday .

Following this, students from government arts college, Kumbakonam, came out agitating against the hydrocarbon project on Friday. Advocates from Pudukkottai District Court stayed away from the court expressing solidarity to the protesters.

The Delhi based union government machinery is heavily in favour of northern India. There should be a balance. Why not select Nagpur or may be even a new nation capital at Maharashtra's Vidharbha region which is almost central part of India? Why not stopping the North Indian Hindutva and Hindi fanatics from taking over India by this move? This way south India can also enjoy better governance. Shifting official language to English and stopping Hindi imposition are also good steps.

Kerala has no problem in being part of Indian union. Kerala and south, south west India all benefit if a central capital realises. Does this also sounds anti-national for Sanghis? Also learn that Kerala has no separatist nationalism unlike Tamilnadu. Like Punjab, like Kashmir, Tamilnadu has a nationalism which is still ignited occassionally. Union government must address some ways to balance the state to state and state to centre relations. As a good step, banning Hindutva terror groups like RSS and stopping enforcement of Hindi can generate much goodwill. Remember that India is not people around Ganga. OK ?
