Anatolian Eagle' 19 - Thunder to roar in Turkey !

PL-15 is an expensive missile and we have very less in numbers. A shipment of 100 arrived in early March.

Also, China wouldn't allow us to simulate that missile with western airforces. It has yeilded very impressive performance results in the past years.

Fascinating. I'm going to extrapolate from what you said to possibly mean that it has an AESA radar in it, and has a range closer to 150-200 km. (C-5s have a range of 100 kms, and you are very impressed, which must mean it is more than that... )

And which PAF jet will fire PL-15, currently JF-17 block 2 radar range is 130 km (KLJ-7V2) @Armchair
 
Yes hell lotta difference. The Eurofighter being more powerful would simply regain energy quickly. Its structure is also built with better composites which remain intact during high stress situation.

The first JF-17 loss was due to breaking off of a wing during high speed pass at speeds in excess of Mach 1. The benchmarks used in GVT (Ground vibration tests) were not satisfactory it was later found. There is alot more to the story which i do not want to say or disclose.

On the forum there have been hints dropped about Russian help in fine tuning the performance of RD-93. In the recent exhibit in Turkey, an official exhibit showed the T/W as 1.09. Also, wing root hardening has now been performed as well. How would you rate the latest Block 2 against EFT?

Just to correct you, Squadron Leader Muhammad Hussain didnot survive the crash in 2011, He died. @Oscar did mention JF-17 was collecting data for a simulator they were gonna build, by doing high speed passes. JF-17 was carrying certain sensors on wings and it couldn't handle the stress. Chinese were furious too about improper improvisation PAC did without their supervision.

No.28 squadron 'Phoenix' is gearing up for Anatolian Eagle'19 which is to be held in June at Konya AFB, Turkey.

The operational range of AMRAAM is even greater. Countries are under oath from US DoD to not leak sensitive information about these weapons.

As for PL-15, it is one of the primary weapons of J-10C. You can keep expectations from it. ;)

Typhoon will still outmanoeuvre thunder by a considerable margin. Its turn radius, climb rates and over all flight envelope is augmented by a factors which are superior design (delta wing), lower weight on critical areas on airframe, powerful engines etc. Thunder is a conventional airframe with limited use of composites and a mediocre engine performance. I mean the engine requires over haul after 800 hours. What do you expect?

So the overall quality of Typhoon is up!

And what a source that PAF have a PL-15 in its arsenal since March as you claim, and what plate form will fire it, JF-17 Block-2, but it is not able to exploit full capabilities of PL-15 because of its radar range, KLJ-7V2 has range of 130 km @airomerix

If you don't mind, I would like to argue against some of your points, just to increase my own knowledge.

EFT also carries the burden of a larger frame and higher weight. A fundamental problem with larger frames is that the pilot will pull more Gs for the same flight envelope. Its twin engines provide a more clear target for IR lock. And it will guzzle up more fuel in a high stakes situation.

That said, the fundamental limitation faced by Thunder is the spool time from low to max throttle. Some years ago I saw the high alpha pass leading to muscle climb maneuver and it looked basically like a stall. But recently, this area has visibly improved. The black smoke has also reduced considerably. I remember watching a video of Thunder doing a loop and immediately going into high alpha then muscle climb. This resonates with what @messiach says about Russian help with the engine.

I thought the engine life is 4000 hours but by tweaking it for higher performance, PAF was getting 2200 hours...

Engine requires replacement after 4000 hours.

The overhauling gets due just after 800. Guess the GE F100's engine life?

The burden of larger frame is easily offset by its huge engines and exceptional TWR. Exactly why Typhoon is considered one of the best dogfighters. It bleeds and regains energy at the whim of the pilot. Also, Typhoon's internal fuel carrying capability is more than twice of Thunder. So it doesnt have to worry about running out of fuel while engaging in a dog fight with JF-17. Lastly, Typhoons ECM/RWR components are very sophisticated.

There is a reason why it is considered on par with F-22 Raptor in its A2A flight envelope.,

There is a facility in PAC Kamra which is specialising in RD-93's tweaking/over hauling. I think the engine issues might have been overcome by our gents working there. Who knows.[
