Flight control computer (FLCC) project for anka male uav phase 1 design and development has been completed. Project certification expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2013.

In additions, Aselsan's latest generation FLIR system which uses QWIP IR detector, will replace AselFlir-300T, When serial production of ANKA commenced in 2013. New generation FLIR system is way lighter than 300T but quite superior imaging skills thanks to new IR detector technology.

Mentioned FLIR will be most probably one of AselFlir 235 or AselFlir 335.

Which of these new FLIR's can we expect to see on the T-129 in the future? Or are they planning to stick with the 300T?

When Their sizes are compared with monster 300T which is known one of the biggest resolution 2nd generation FLIR system of the World, New FLIR's looks quite tiny indeed :)

Everything is possible If the subject is a product intellectual and property rights belong to you. TAI is developing T-129B2 variant to be manufactured in 2016. B2 T-129 will have a longer nose cause of MMW radar to be carried on fore section. It is also planned to increase the payload of B2 around %10 cause of increase the range and missile capacity of helicopter so avionic systems will be modified. Who knows maybe They will integrate lighter Aselsan new generation FLIR as well... (?)

Atk pilots will enjoy the great detection range of 300T FLIR system(Even USA Apache helicopters which use 2nd generation FLIR systems can't come close to 300T in terms of resolution/capablities) so I don't know Whether Turkish army accpt replacing 300T or not. :)

According to a written statement by TAI, the flight test program since December 30, 2010 has completed after January 20-22 2013 acceptance test flights conducted.

The testing flight started at 09:05 on Sunday. With 200-kilometer range and a 18-hour flight time has been completed with a successful automatic landing at 03:15 am on Monday morning.

Thru direction of Konya, range of flight was conducted under the wind conditions up to speeds of 40-45 kts. Data link contact and coordination with Esenboga Square also successfully tested.

The tuesday night, automatic takeoff and landing flight tests were conducted.

ANKA Test Sürecini Tamamlad

Türk Havacılık ve Uzay Sanayii A.Ş. (TUSAŞ) tarafından geliştirilen ve 30 Aralık 2010 tarihinden bu yana uçuş testlerine devam edilen "ANKA" İnsansız Hava Aracı Sistemi, 20 Ocak 2013 Pazar günü ve 22 Ocak 2013 Salı günü yaptığı uçuşlarla kabul test sürecini tamamlamıştır.

Pazar sabahı 9:05'te başlanan uçuş, 200km'lik link menzili ve 18 saat uçuş süresi gösterimi yapılmasının ardından Pazartesi sabahı 03:15'te gece yapılan otomatik inişle başarıyla tamamlanmıştır.

Konya istikametinde 40-45 kts hızlara varan rüzgar koşulları altında yapılan menzil uçuşunda veri linki üzerinden Esenboğa Meydanı ile temas ve koordinasyon da sağlanmıştır.

Salı günü yapılan uçuşta da gece koşullarında otomatik kalkış ve iniş gösterimi yapılmıştır.

Geçtiğimiz Ekim ayından bu yana Savunma Sanayii Müsteşarlığı ve Hava Kuvvetleri Komutanlığı (Hv.K.K.) temsilcilerinin katılımıyla sürdürülen kabul sürecinde 130'a yakın yer ve uçuş test prosedürü başarıyla gerçekleştirilmiş ve sistemin göreve hazır olduğu görülmüştür.

Aralık 2010'da yapılan ilk uçuşundan bu yana 90'ın üzerinde sortide toplam 140 saatin üzerinde uçuş yapılan ANKA İHA sisteminde 26000ft'e varan uçuş irtifalarında motor, iniş takımı, çevre kontrol, buzdan koruma gibi temel hava aracı alt sistemlerinin yanı sıra Gece/Gündüz görüş sağlayan kamera, hava telsizi, veri kayıt sistemi gibi göreve yönelik sistem ve ekipmanın da uygun performansta çalıştığı görülmüştür. Hava Aracı'nın otomatik kalkış/iniş, seyrüsefer ve arama paterni kabiliyetleri zorlu hava koşullarında da denenmiştir.

Hv.K.K. ihtiyacı için on adet sistemin seri üretimine yönelik sözleşme görüşmeleri devam etmekte olup, sürecin 2013 yılı ortalarında tamamlanması öngörülmektedir.

Turkey's first national unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has completed its test flight and is ready for mass production.
The first domestically manufactured UAV, the Anka (Phoenix), completed its test program with the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) in operations against the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Mass production of the Anka is expected to start soon.

Final test flights were made on Tuesday. The Anka, which departed from the base of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in Ankara, flew towards Konya non-stop for 18 hours. The Anka had its first test flight in December, 2010. It has so far flown more than 140 hours and reached an altitude of 26,000 feet.

According to the information obtained by Today's Zaman, the five Anka vehicles that TAI currently has, will be deployed in the province of Batman in April and be used in counterterrorism operations.

The Anka, originally planned to be ready for use in early 2012, will be used in operations against the PKK and assisting the military in locating terrorists. With a 56-foot wingspan, the ability to fly at a speed of 75 knots per hour and the capability of reaching an altitude of 30,000 feet (9,144 meters), the drone is expected to mostly monitor the activities of PKK militants who enter Turkey from bases in northern Iraq.

The Anka UAV is able to fly for 24 hours at a time. Turkish engineers have said they are confident the Anka will become part of the country's arsenal. It is expected to replace the Israeli-made Heron UAVs. A total of 43 countries have now developed UAVs, which have proven to be extremely effective in gathering intelligence.

So difficult times passed until ANKA grow up. Crash landings, Landing gears failures, Connection losts, Self-destruction mode activations, P1 lost, difficult manual landing operations, risen tensions of ANKA pilots, sleepless nights, crying-shaking engineers cause of ambition/proud whose avarage ages are 29-30... TAI manager Muharrem Dortkasli always underlines How ambitious ANKA engineers team are.

I think This documentary will make more sense now to see How young and beautiful girls are working for ANKA... :)

At present, Same 180 young ambitious and proud TAI engineers are developing big brother of ANKA which has a take off weight around 5 tonnes. Big Brother of ANKA will be revealed in 2016 so Engineers are so busy with it. She will be direct competitor of Israeli Eitan and Predator-B and will use same P&W Canada engine with Eitan .

I love the optimism, but I'd like to point to the fact that the UAV has only flown 140 hours like the article says.... I expected nothing less than 2-3000 hours test flight as base for testing. how much does each UAV (ANKA) cost ?

I just think that our error margin should be 0,01% especially when it's something that we consider selling. Also I want you to pay attention to that 43 other countries have developed UAV. How is our ANKA's performance compared to the others ?

Do we have a ranking system. The criteria for ranking should be flight hours, altitude and tech failures (anything that prevents it from flying).

My reason for the above is, if I can have a UAV in the air for 30-48 hours nonstop and monitor movement on ground then I don't need much else to send a F-16 or super cobra out there to check out things.

Nobody said it'll fly with AF-235. Anka will be mass produced with AF-300, the way it's designed and tested.
Is Israel Eitan able to carry weapon on it?
The important difference here is the turboprop engine. Payload isn't an issue for an UAV that weighs 5 tonnes. Whatever they optimize the design for, wings will always be strong enough for a few AGM114s :)

Its announced it will enter Serial production with AF-235 :)
