AIR CHIEF INAUGURATES SHOOTER SQUADRON AT PAF BASE M. M. ALAM

Hi,

So---the question arises---who sabotaged the 2 seater JF17 to be manufactured with the single seater---( which air chief )---.

We have been hearing bragging from the Paf for years---how superior that they are and they did not need the JF17 2 seater for training their pilots---other air forces should follow suite.

So---basically what was the Paf's expectation of training someone to fly the single seater JF17's---.

Was it taking their top notch F16 pilots and putting them in the JF17---to get the program going?

I firmly believe that if an honest knowledgeable---rip the heart out kind of man looks at the overall picture of the JF17---he will find quite a few issues, deficiencies in the planning.

It doesn't end there. Even after developing the JF-17B, PAF has committed to a mere 2 aircraft. Those are basically airshow displays and I recall PAF's old saying 'we never needed a two seater, but other countries do' :hitwall:

Brother, I am asking about the Squadron Number like No.27 is Zarrar and 28 is Phenoix. Because as per Wikipedia, No 18 is "Sharp Shooter"... I am not certain if that squadron has been assigned this role. It has been listed as OCU squadron.

Pakistan Needs to evaluate the JL-9 (Chinese equivalent to the American T-38A; which has served many air forces well). PAF should also ask the Turkish air force to evaluate their T-38A, to learn the lessons they have learned and know what to look for in a LIFT for the PAF.

When the lifespan of the FT-7P ends what will the PAF operate at a reasonable price and with minimal change to the PAF maintance and operations? the JL-9 can have subsystems similar to the Jf-17 and a smaller version of the Jf-17's radar, future IRST, refueling probe can be added to allow pilots to train on all those capabilities on a relatively low end LIFT.

Most of those LIFT aircraft are overpowered, quite heavy duty platforms and cost a lot of money per flight hour. Also, you only need a relatively small number making a new type for that role not cost effective. That only makes sense if you are a very big air force or use the same platform as an attack aircraft too.

I think PAF chose to stick to existing proven platforms for training pilots and have some duals of each fighter for type conversion and learning the tactical specifics of using that aircraft and its systems in combat. When you then pool expert mission commanders and various types of aircraft in a dedicated aerial tactics unit, you can further enhance doctrine. So, in that reasoning there is no need for a LIFT.

Streamlining the training syllabus can also help. For example, the Swiss air force uses PC-7, PC-21 and then onto the F/A-18 Hornet or F-5E/F. They got rid of their Hawks...

Another option is to train all your pilots elsewhere (in Turkey or Qatar for example). In that case you can probably use the freed up resources to establish a couple of extra squadrons. But then you also have to give up a proud institution as the PAF Academy along with self reliance in training your pilots...

True, i would envisage if a high performance turbo prop like Super Tucano's league is made available, the need for LIFT disappears; K8 is there I recognise; all you just need is JF-17B to train towards JF-17.

Paf would need 2 squadrons of L-15c as a lift to properly train from SM TO K8 to L15C TO JFT-B

I feel this is an issue that'll shift left and right between different Air Chiefs.

Those defining training in the PAF clearly have different views from one another, e.g. some believe the physical attributes of the K-8 are enough to prepare rookie pilots for the JF-17, while others seem to think otherwise.

I suspect the paucity of funds has pushed the PAF to eschew LIFTs which, fundamentally, are basically require fighter-like maintenance treatment yet do not provide the same utility as a front-line fighter. So, either the LIFT is markedly cheaper to fly OR the PAF is willing to sign on, but 15-20 years down the line when the K-8s age (i.e. just switch to the turboprop to LIFT model proposed by Turkey).

This was clearly mentioned on the forum months ago, btw shooter is different from sharp shooters. Shooters will stay in mianwali and keep flying F7s
This means jf17b will be PAF new LIFT/FT-7
