Afghan forces on alert amid reports Pakistani helicopters helping Taliban
By MIRWAIS ADEEL - Mon Jul 06 2015, 3:06 pm

The Afghan national security forces were put on alert amid reports Pakistani helicopters are helping the Taliban militants by supplying weapons in eastern Paktika province.

Deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Dawlat Waziri, told reporters on Monday that the Afghan forces have been instructed to use all force to react and stop Pakistani helicopters to assist the Taliban militants.

The remarks by Waziri were followed after reports emerged that the Pakistani helicopters are dropping weapons to Taliban in Barmal district.

This comes as tensions have intensified across the Durand Line following a brief clash between the Afghan security forces with the Pakistani troops in Paktika province last week.

At least eight Pakistani security personnel were reportedly killed after the Afghan forces responded to their provocative action of building military installations within the Afghan soil.

A member of the Afghan national security forces also lost his life during the gun battle with the Pakistani troops.

Time has come for Pakistan to enforce the Durand line and with force as well.

We need installations at the border to stop Taliban from moving back and forth. If they won't allow us to do this in peace than we'll just have to get it done via force.

Elements of Afghan Army and Intelligence are hell bent on sabotaging budding friendly ties and developing good will between Pakistan and new Afghan government. It serves dual purpose; serving Indian interest and hiding their incompetence to fight Taliban. Here are few facts:

1. Afghan army won't let us put up gates and check points neither will they man their side to check cross border movement. But they will keep chanting mantra of Pakistan's support to Taliban. How absurd is that?

2. Dropping weapons with helicopters inside Afghanistan? Did they even think before making this claim? US observes Afghan airspace with their own assets. Is it possible that our helicopters make an incursion and they are not picked by them? Why on earth will PA use helicopters at all? Don't we know if one of our helicopter goes down in Afghanistan even due to technical reasons, what diplomatic storm will it create? If at all we wanted to support Taliban, we are so stupid to use helicopters?

3. Recent Afghan Taliban attacks have been in Northern, Central and Western Afghanistan, away from Pakistan border. Those are Northern Alliance and Hazara areas as well as Persian influenced people. How do you explain that?

You know one of these days, I hope Afghan Army will come back to senses and start to see things as they are. Inflow of foreign cash and US military support has an intoxicating effect on them. They just wish to take out their deep hatred against Pakistan without contemplating consequences for their country and nation. They are their own worst enemies at the moment.

But who is instructing them from Govt as they cant even agree on finding just one man acceptable to all as Defence Minister. Poor President Ashraf Ghani is being hijacked by Northern Alliance aka warlords' alliance time and again. Can we plz just choke the Pak - Afghan border crossing for just say a month. They would themselves know who is Daddy here.

It's a no brainer that Afghan Army can be decimated by Pakistan. However, will it be wise to do so? This will lead to further chaos and loss of government's writ on even more areas. A major headache for Pakistan and cause of our instability as they become breeding grounds for Talibans, IS, separatists and foreign proxies. I think it is wise for us to help Afghan government extend its control over its army and intelligence apparatus. It will happen slowly as generals and commanders will be replaced. Russia is an important player here. They can help rein in likes of Abdullah Abdullah and Northern Alliance and I like the way Pakistan and Russia are moving ahead with their relations. This leaves Taliban-India-Iran nexus isolated and weakened. As I see it for now, Afghan defence apparatus is working against its own people and national interests. They have let their personal hatred and foreign money take precedence over the future of their nation which is served better with cooperation to Pakistan.
