Lawyers feel Abrar’s 'Chamkeeli' hurts nation’s masculinity and we are confused

LAHORE: In a recent turn of events, lawyers in Lahore have filed a petition against singer Abrarul Haq for his song
Chamkeeli. As per details,
Rana Adnan Asghar, the plaintiff on the behalf of Khwaja Moazzam Iqbal advocate, Sajjad Rana advocate, Chaudhry Tariq Yousuf advocate and Tariq Shah advocate has filed a petition in the Lahore Civil Court against singer Abrarul Haq.
The petition calls out the song
for ‘ridiculing’ men in the ‘guise of women empowerment,’ adding that it mocks masculinity, according to the plaintiff maintained in the petition.
“You decide for yourself after listening to the song and join me in raising my voice against this bias track.
You should seek explanation from Abrarul Haq for the blow to the masculinity of the nation,” maintained Rana Adnan.
He added that Abrarul Haq should delete the song and apologise to the nation, given that
it is a matter of the ‘national interest’.
Abrarul Haq’s
Chamkeeli features popular actor Mehwish Hayat and vlogger Shahveer Jaffery. The track shows Hayat dressed as a bride and Shahveer as the groom.
“Are you guys ready for the new wedding song of the year?” Abrar questioned in a post before the song was revealed.“My new song
Chamkeeli is releasing on 7th December, Featuring Mehwish Hayat and Shahveer Jaffery.”
The video of the song shows Abrar console the groom and protect him, as Hayat seems to be on a rampage. She appears to be playing the role of dominant bride as Shahveer attempts to make a run for it after witnessing her anger.
It seems that Abrar may have possibly taken inspiration from her social activism and outspoken personality to create the narrative of the song. But it seems his inclination towards portraying a dominant woman may have backfired after his accusers took it as an insult of men altogether, while adhering to the gender construct of society.
Nevertheless, the Civil Judge Ziaur Rahman has adjourned the hearing till December 21, seeking response from Abrar-ul-Haq, PEMRA and others.

Billo De Ghar was also taken off of Coke Studio’s Youtube page due to alleged copyright issues.

A petition has been filed in the civil court Lahore seeking the ban on Abrar-ul-Haq’s latest song, ‘Chamkeeli’.
The application argued that the song insulted both the genders – male and female.
Chamkeeli is the Punjabi wedding song. The video features Mehwish Hayat and vlogger Shahveer Jaffrey. The song was released earlier this month. Jaffrey played groom in the song while Hayat played his bride.
Petitioner has described the song disrespectful towards men and demanded its removal from YouTube. The song has so far garnered 3 million views on YouTube.
The petitioner has also asked the singer to apologize for the song.
The song shows Mehwish Hayat arrives to take the groom home, contrary to the traditional Pakistani wedding in which the groom is welcomed with his family and friends to take the bride.
Abrar-ul-Haq is already facing a court case in Islamabad High Court after a petition challenging his appointment as the Chairman of Pakistan Red Crescent Authority was filed.
Earlier, a video of him laughing at himself at a court appearance popped up on social media. Abrar-ul-Haq took banter at the questions regarding his court appearance.
Abrar-ul-Haq, walking towards the courtroom, was asked how he feels about appearing in the court in real life since he is usually seen reenacting court scenes in his songs.
Haq, a renowned upbeat singer, with laughter, said that he has been to the courts several times before in real life. Adding that this is his fourth court case. The singer with a smirk responded that he is now habitual of court cases.
The appointment of singer-turned-politician, Abrar-ul-Haq as the Chairman of Pakistan Red Crescent Authority was postponed by Islamabad High Court. The current PRCA chairman Dr. Ejaz Illahi had challenged Haq’s appointment in a petition filed on November 16th.
With another potential legal case in the pipeline perhaps Haq is certainly right to say that he is accustomed to making court appearances now.
Abrar-ul-Haq is the prominent PTI member, joined the party in 2011. He frequently graced the PTI demonstrations and entertained the protestors with his performances. Haq even made a pitch for Imran Khan by singing a few party anthems and songs for the election campaign.
He closely contested the elections against PML-N’s Ahsan Iqbal from his home constituency of Narowal, Punjab.
Earlier, the singer was in limelight for his reprized debut song ‘Billo’ for Coke Studio 12. The song has been the hit song track after Atif Aslam’s ‘Wohi Khuda Hai’.
Haq made an enthralling debut in Pakistan’s music industry from song Billo De Ghar in 1995. His debut album made a whopping sale of 40.3 million worldwide, making him a household name. The massive success of Billo made him the ‘King of the Pakistani Pop’.
Later on, Abrar-ul-Haq produced funky Punjabi songs that made to the top of the musical charts in Pakistan in the 1990s and early 2000.
