Well thats true,but that was also the reason I told that if they stayed longer the current Delhi would have a different image completely,meanwhile I dont consider all this as pride or achievements,we all r happy with the Delhi,Mumbai and Kolakata we developed.

You are kidding, right? I've been to Delhi recently and they have done a decent job I guess. But Bombay is a nightmare in urban planning - ditto for Calcutta. Think about it - till the Brits were around ALL the roads of Bombay were washed everyday with water - this dramatically reduced after independence and it was actually news when they washed the streets with water when Obama came visiting. The Brits built the suburban railway system to handle a population of 1 million when the population of Bombay was half a million - this same system with minor tweaks supports a city of 20 million. Calcutta is a laughing stock when compared to Bombay. Let's admit it - we f... up ...big time.

U actually misunderstood me,I was not implying that these r great cities,but rather trying to say that we should not depend on the legacy of British and develop our cities as much as we can.
