What's new

71% voting recorded in 2nd phase of Jammu & Kashmir poll

On one hand they see the terrible situation of infrastructure and law and order in AJK and on the other, they can't tolerate the army which breathes down their neck.

Then they should also answer one question as to why AFSPA was needed? 1989-1993?

Does it ring a bell?

Army had to step in because of what the people in the valley did to their fellow countrymen.

Hope the voting is peaceful and people are able to exercise their right of voting comfortably. I assume weather would be terribly cold this time of year which makes the large participation number even more encouraging.
Again Thumbs up to Election Commission.

Because it is not pakistan.
Do you remember Musharrafff's referendum?

What must be remembered is that this voting signals a change in perception by Kashmiris on how they control their future, and not essential an end to their idea of rights struggle. A basic recent clue to why even with generally much more than most South Asians( and definitely more than Kashmiris), even developed socities like the UK have had the Scotland independence referendum all because there was a perception of being handed straws instead of their due rights.

Let's just say the 'UK' is not the best model to emulate, given the circumstance (UK is in). :D

Whatever!!
The fact is that they are increasingly willing to be part of being normal citizens in a functional Democracy.
Not to be Pawns/"Pyaadas" being pushed around by somebody else outside their country!
Therefore they subcribed to the idea of the elections and are actually in fact voting in it in such large numbers.

Off course they would be. There is no longer an information lockdown imposed upon them. What makes you think a movement like those in Tunisia or otherwise would have happened had there been no social media or internet?

There is an awakening among the youth to get out of the stoning and protest phase and move towards education. After all, both India and Pakistan were not formed after guerilla wars but by actively participating in the Raj's political system...why cant the same be done here?
