What's new

1965 analysed.

* Readers will remember that Indian Mountain Divisions were deficient in anti-tank capabilities; they did not expect to encounter tanks in the mountains. However, Abdul Hamid of the Grenadiers did most of his damage with his RCLR - recoil-less rifle. At that point, both the Sherman tanks and the Centurions had been withdrawn, and the Grenadiers faced armoured (and artillery) attacks with only their RCLR detachment, and with the support of mines laid around their position by an engineering company.
The DP that I have had for years here is small tribute Abdul Hamid.

I thought so, but thanks for the confirmation. He was one gutsy guy; they got him because he took down three and tried for a fourth. If only he had scooted out of there after the third.

He also took down 3 the day before so he might have been looking to up his daily share. Battalion and regimental accounts claim seven tanks;

Just the aspect of one mere mortal, knocking out seven tanks with a jeep mounted recoilless rifle is unimaginable. And then this machine again shows up at the longewala.
