1/3rd of world's extreme poor are in India: UN report

Having millions of poor people, means massive potential for future economic growth.

There is no reason why poor people in rural areas cannot eventually become as productive as educated people in urban areas, provided the national government has a good plan for economic development.

Population living on less than $2 per day:
Bangladesh: 26% source

Your source doesn't say that. Your source mentions:

This sharp decline means Bangladesh will reach its first U.N.-established Millennium Development Goal, that of poverty reduction, two years ahead of the 2015 deadline. The country is also on course to lower its poverty rate — the proportion of the population living below the poverty threshold — to about 26%, an improvement on the original target of 29.5%.

The number of Bangladeshis living in poverty — defined as an income of less than $2 a day, or a diet of less than 2,100 calories daily — declined by 26% from 2000 to 2010, despite a growing population, which now totals some 150 million.

Basically Bangladesh just changed its goal. And judging by the low numbers I suspect that they are talking about the national poverty threshold.

The second time he mentions the "26%" he's talking about how much it declined from 2000 to 2010. Not the absolute percentage.

India: 70% source

Correct. 68.8% to be more accurate.

Don't count on national poverty lines since India uses a very low standard to measure poverty.

I was not planning to use that because as you mention it's rather subjective to each country.

But anyway, I gave you the percentage of people in these two countries living under $1.25 and you want to give me the percentage of people living under $2? Let's see; In India, as we both said, it's a little bellow 70% and in Bangladesh it's 76.5%.

You have a link?

I don't have enough posts yet to be able to post links but you can follow the link that a some guy gave above. My statistics here came from the world bank, the same source that he linked.

Indians can't face the truth and have to blame everyone else ....

Well according to same article Bangladesh have 5.3% of total 1,2 billion poors in the world
So, 5.3 of 1.2 billion is 6 crore 36 lakh according to me
So, Bangladesh have more than 6 crore poors, Total population of Bangladesh is nearly 16 crore (160 million)
That means Bangladesh have more than 33% of poor in their total population
I don't think i have to say anything more

Why da **** are we even discussing this? Arent u all bored of discussing Indian poor? We are woring on it and are on route. Now be patient and deal with it. Let others masturbate off our Poverty.

India is poorest eww who would want to live there

India is poorest eww who would want to live there

Before frantically looking at others, ever cared to look at your own house?

But no!

There is not a significant proportion of your country living in poverty. There is no violence or any security concerns. Your economy is great and your living standards are of course higher than those of your eastern neighbour!

 SO everything is awesome in wonderland ! No need to worry, just troll others and never even imagine that its worse in your own nation

And who elected them...We the people. In a democracy the ultimate responsibility lies with the people.

Very true.

Though by the same logic, you can't blame me for anything the Chinese government does. Since I did not elect them. :P

It's just our good luck that they are very focused on economic development now.

But I blame you for not standing up or questioning the policies of your Govt. Most of us Indians in PDF had issues with Congress and many of non-Indians including you accused us of propping up a dynasty and the country being ruled by and "Italian" so on and so forth. We waited and changed it...but you will never have that chance.

Of course it is....You could have become another North Korea, but your leaders are sane unlike the Kims.

Do you know how many street protests and rallies I have been on? Do you know anything about me?

I'm sorry I replied to you, your post was needlessly hostile and pointless.

You know North Korea has a life expectancy above the world average right, while India has a life expectancy well below the world average, and low even for South Asia.

You are from Hong Kong. I will wait until the one nation, 2 system arrangement expires to see to how many street protests you take part in.

Ya right..and how that information gets from a country where there is total media blackout.

2 dollars is 120 rupees per day. Provided the 2 parents work, thats 240 rupees per day. If you are poor you are entitled to subsidized food & medical and free education for your children. Provided you have a place to stay, you can live on 120 rupees per day in India.

You know there are over 180,000 large scale protests in mainland China every year.

And they work too, here are some examples:

BBC News - China protest closes toxic chemical plant in Dalian

BBC News - China waste water pipeline scrapped after protest

And countless other cases.

Also, do you consider Modi to be a mass murderer?
