1/3rd of world's extreme poor are in India: UN report

Having millions of poor people, means massive potential for future economic growth.

There is no reason why poor people in rural areas cannot eventually become as productive as educated people in urban areas, provided the national government has a good plan for economic development.

But this will need huge reforms.

India needs large manufacturing sector, it will absorb large amount labor, which in turn, will reduce unemployment and poverty.

If there is any Indian leader who can do it successfully, it will surely be Modi.

[q agree with your point. uote="ahmadnawaz22, post: 5925584, member: 20561"]Interesting 22.3% for Pakiatan. Good by South Asian Standard but Still very high though.
South Asians need to do away with there problems and focus more on social welfare. Look at East Asian Countries. No matter how much chest thumping we may make by showing stupid future forecasts, South Asia is desperately backward in terms of developement of general public[/quote]

I agree with your point. All south asian country are still relatively backward compared to east asia. I think it has to do with difference in culture and economic policies each followed.

East Asian countries got the basics right: prudent monetary and fiscal policies, competitive exchange rates, low domestic distortions (such as price controls and wasteful subsidies), flexible labour markets, openness to international trade, and investments in education and infrastructure

south asia has much bigger reform gaps; it has not gotten the basics right. Public finances are shaky due to persistent budget deficits. Internal and external trade barriers, price controls and hugely wasteful subsidies throttle agriculture. Most services sectors are weighed down by myriad restrictions.
Also south Asia, unlike East Asia, has not integrated into global supply chains, apart from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in garments, and India in a few other niche manufacturing and services sectors coupled with the fact that Intra-regional trade barriers are much higher than they are in East Asia, and cross-border infrastructure much worse. So its obvious that souty asia still lags alot behind east asia, and this will be the case for a long time to come if there is not a radical change in policy in this region.
East asian countries are mainly confucian societies which hallmark of Confucius thought is an emphasis on education, ethic, discipline and study. So these helped create a sense of harmonyysocial cohension among people living in these region/country , where each person tries to work collectively for the greater good of all/the country.

Hopefully, with globalization and time, things will change I believe and south asia will emerge in a better situation thsn they are now. :-)

Things will never change a bit untill we south Asians stop considering each other subhumans and respecting rights and nationhood of each other.

We have richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor. This income inequaity is a drag on our progress. To eradicate poverty, Modi should rule atleast for 20 years

India is a paradox.. No where do you see such extremes being comfortable next to each other.. Unashamed wealth right along side abject poverty and squalor.. There are other countries that are poorer than India in terms of wealth but without such stark contrasts

Welfare? That's a new one.though I couldn't find one solid link that provide a bit of this information from your government or any authentic sources.
Your government doesn't know how many Bangladeshi allegedly working in india. They didn't do any survey, don't have any data.
Who and how are they giving this money away?

Read,read,read.
Know thy self,at least try to know a little bit more of the subject before you open your mouth.
Its very easy,G O O G L E.Try it its a good way of finding truths. But you may not like them.

Google dont represent true ground reality. Before open your mouth you must remember that you are talking to an Indian living in India.
These news I posted is true.We have several NRI in our state itself having a salary of more than 1lakhs per month with BPL card. These estimate of UN dont factored that.

And who elected them...We the people. In a democracy the ultimate responsibility lies with the people.

When they controlled every media and every opinion maker. The nationalist opposition voices were sidelined and deliberately muted. Indians had access to only partial mangled information. Based on that they were blinded and manipulated into voting only for congress time and again. The day they started having access to unadulterated raw information, Congress was history.
