By considering the strategic importance of this project, I think it would be good to have a separate topic for this project.
The map of this project is shown below:

This project would transfer the gas resources from ShahDeniz field to Europe, using Georgia, Turkey, Balkan, and Italy. This project is not only important for Azerbaijan and Turkey, but also is important for EU and USA, since it would break the gas monopoly of Russia on Europe. Another aspect of this project is transfering Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan gas using this project which would make them to integrate with Azerbaijan and Turkey, which can lead to a strong real Turkic union. I remind you that the coal and steel european community was the basis that initialized forming the European union, and this project can have a similar role and be a backbone for the Turkic union. Also, the income provided by this project would help Central Asian Turkics to get real political independence from Russia, as well. Another important aspect is giving Turkics a political influence on EU, like how Russians have gained political influence using this project in EU.

This project is consisted of four parts. These parts are SCPX, TANAP, Pipeline through Balkan, and TAP. SCPX stands for South Caucasus Pipeline Expansion which already exists between Azerbaijan and Georgia but needs to be expanded, to be able to transfer this huge amount of gas. TANAP is the Trans Anatolian Pipeline which passes through Turkey and conects it to Greece. The third part would be s short path connecting greece to Albania, and the fourth part is the TAP pipline which means Trans Adriatic Pipeline which conencts Albania to Italy.

This important project is targeted to be finished in the late 2018.
Technical details:
Shah Deniz Stage 2, or Full Field Development (FFD) is a giant project that will add a further 16 billion cubic meters per year (bcma) of gas production to the approximately 9 bcma produced by Shah Deniz Stage 1. Around $28 billion in capital investment will be required to produce the gas and transport it to the Georgia-Turkey border. From there, additional pipeline systems will deliver 6 bcma of gas to Turkey and a further 10 bcma of gas to markets in Europe, in a route known as the Southern Gas Corridor. Shah Deniz gas will travel 3,500 kilometres, to elevations of over 2,500 metres, and over 800 metres below the sea. Shah Deniz Stage 2, one of the largest gas developments in the world, will help increase European energy security by bringing Caspian gas resources to markets in Europe for the very first time. .

The current concept for Shah Deniz Stage 2 includes:

two new bridge-linked offshore platforms.
26 gas production wells which will be drilled with 2 semi-submersible rigs.
500 km of subsea pipelines will link the wells with the onshore terminal.
upgrade of the offshore construction vessels
expansion of the Sangachal terminal to accommodate the new gas processing and compression facilities.

Azerbaijan’s role as energy supplier discussed in UK parliament

The current and future role of Azerbaijan as an energy supply and transit country was discussed during a debate in the UK parliament, organized by the European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS), says a report disseminated by the PRWEB Online Press Release Distribution Service on November 19.

The debate was hosted by UK MP David Hamilton.

Hamilton said that the biggest question for the UK today is security of supply.

“It has become apparent that there is the potential for blackouts across the UK. Renewable energy technology has a role to play, but the public cannot wait for these systems to be constructed,” he said.

“When I visited Azerbaijan earlier this year, I became interested by the way in which the BP-led Shah Deniz Consortium is developing its terminals and constructing the Southern Corridor to bring gas to the UK,” Hamilton said adding that the UK public expects continuity of supply.

Jack Pegoraro, UK Public Affairs Manager, TEAS, said the situation in Ukraine, and civil war in Libya, have also demonstrated that there is a need for a diversity of sources to satisfy EU energy requirements.

“It is important to recognise the significance of Azerbaijan as an energy supplier. Construction of the Southern Corridor will also further increase the significance of the country,” he said.

Big political decisions need to be made, and we need a great deal of courage to ensure long-term energy supply security, according to Andy Sawford MP, Shadow Minister for Communities and Local Government.

“My recent visit to Ukraine demonstrated that this is an important challenge that needs to be addressed, as EU energy supply and security is at risk. It is good to hear what is happening in Azerbaijan, as the groundbreaking on the Southern Corridor demonstrates that a new source of energy that will soon come on stream. An energy mix is necessary, and we need to change the way that the EU energy market operates,” Sawford said.

Azerbaijan’s gas supplies to Europe will open the "Southern Gas Corridor", which will allow Europe to diversify its sources of hydrocarbon supplies and boost energy security, and on the other hand give Azerbaijan a new market - Europe.

In order to ensure the gas supplies to the new market, a final investment decision was made Dec. 17, 2013 on the Stage 2 of development of the Shah Deniz field.

Some 10 billion cubic meters (bcm) of the field’s total gas output will go to Europe, while 6 bcm will be annually delivered to Turkey.

The gas to be produced as part of the Stage 2 of the field’s development, will be exported to Turkey and the European markets by means of expanding the South Caucasus Pipeline and the construction of Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).

SOCAR ready to offer oil and gas transport infrastructure to Turkmenistan

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is ready to offer a diversified system of oil and gas pipelines, infrastructure and other opportunities to Turkmenistan for the implementation of projects in the oil and gas sphere, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said.

He made the remarks during the Turkmenistan Oil and Gas Conference 2014 in Ashgabat on Nov.18.

“We are ready to offer our developed infrastructure, diversified system of oil and gas pipelines, terminals and other opportunities to the countries of the region, primarily, to our close neighbor Turkmenistan at any time for the implementation of projects in the oil and gas sphere,” he said.

Abdullayev added that the diversification of transport routes from the Caspian Sea will be a significant factor of strengthening the energy security of consumers and the states in this region and will allow reducing transportation costs and increase the profitability of commercial supply of hydrocarbons.

“Azerbaijan is open to the mutually beneficial cooperation,” Abdullayev said, adding that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Southern Gas Corridor project, aimed at transporting Azerbaijani gas to Turkey and Europe, was held on Sept.20.

Abdullayev said that the initial capacity of the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP), which is a part of the Southern Gas Corridor project and is aimed at transporting Azerbaijani gas to the border with Europe through Turkey’s territory, is 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year with the possibility of expansion to 31 billion cubic meters.

Earlier, following the negotiations with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that TANAP could also supply Turkmen gas to Europe.

After the high-level negotiations held on Nov.7, Turkmenistan’s Turkmengaz State Concern and Turkish company Atagaz signed a framework agreement on cooperation in the purchase and sale of natural gas.

The construction of a 300-kilometer gas pipeline under the Caspian Sea to the coast of Azerbaijan is regarded as the best option for ensuring the delivery of Turkmen energy resources to European market. Further, Turkmen hydrocarbons can be delivered to Turkey, which borders the European countries.

First batch of pipes for Shah Deniz-2 project delivered to Georgia’s Batumi port

Georgia’s Batumi Sea Port management have reached an agreement with Swiss Panalpina company on the transshipment of pipes for the implementation of the Shah Deniz-2 project, a message posted on port’s website said on Nov.20.

Shah Deniz-2 project envisages the development of Shah Deniz gas condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

The first batch of the steel pipes with a weight of six metric tons each has already been delivered to the Batumi port, according to the message.

Additionally, it is expected that the first batch of large-sized pipes will be delivered to the port in early 2015. The pipes will be transported from the port to Azerbaijan via a railway.

The second stage of development of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz gas condensate field is considered to be one of the largest and most difficult initiatives ever implemented in the world oil and gas industry, according to the message.

“And due to that fact, the selection of Batumi Sea Port as the point of transshipment of steel pipes once again proves that this port is a reliable and stable partner in the sphere of port services of the Black Sea region.”

On December 17, 2013, a final investment decision was made on the Stage 2 of the 'Shah Deniz' offshore gas and condensate field's development.

The reserve of the field is estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas and 240 million metric tons of condensate.

The EU and Azerbaijan can benefit from the integration of the energy markets and thereby strengthen their energy security, SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev said in an interview with the Greek newspaper IMERISIA. The interview was also published on SOCAR’s website Nov. 19.

"The interests of the EU and Azerbaijan coincide in the field of power engineering,” he said. “Strengthening of the cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan in power engineering will create the opportunities for the necessary reforms. It will also improve the investment climate and form the conditions for further investments."

“SOCAR together with 25 global companies works on a number of oil and gas projects,” he said. “The Southern Gas Corridor project is among them. It will ensure Azerbaijani gas supply to Europe from Shah Deniz field. A significant part of a $ 45 billion amount to be invested in the project implementation accounted for SOCAR. The components of this project are the South Caucasus, Trans-Anatolian, Trans-Adriatic gas pipelines. This proves once again that we stand for the security of the EU energy supply."

The Southern Gas Corridor will allow Europe to diversify its hydrocarbon supply sources and strengthen energy security and also will allow Azerbaijan to obtain a new market in Europe.

On December 17, 2013, a final investment decision was made on the Stage 2 of the Shah Deniz offshore gas and condensate field's development. The gas produced at this field will first go to the European market (10 billion cubic meters).

The gas to be produced as part of the Stage 2 of the field's development will be exported to Turkey and to the European markets by means of expanding the South Caucasus Pipeline and construction of the Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).

Shah Deniz's reserves are estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas. A contract was signed on June 4, 1996 to develop the Shah Deniz offshore field.

Currently, the partners for the development of the Shah Deniz field are: British BP (28.8 percent), Norwegian Statoil (15.5 percent), Iran's NICO (10 percent), French Total (10 percent), Russia's Lukoil (10 percent) and Turkish TPAO (9 percent), SOCAR (16.7 percent).

Earlier, Total sold its share in the project to TPAO and after the completion of the transaction the share of the latter in the project will be equal to 19 percent.

Norway’s Statoil has sold its 15.5 percent share in the project to the Malaysian PETRONAS. The purchase and sale transactions have not been completed yet.

Azerbaijan to export gas to Europe in 2020

The gas will be exported to Europe as part of the second stage of the Shah Deniz gas condensate field development in 2020, Southern Gas Corridor company head Afghan Isayev said during the "Oil and Gas Week 2014" conference in Baku Nov. 21.

He said that the gas supply to Turkey will begin as part of this project in 2018.

“The gas will be supplied to Europe due to the expansion of the South Caucasus Gas Pipeline up to 23.4 billion cubic meters per year, as well as the construction of the Trans-Anatolian and Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipelines,” Isayev said.

“TANAP will be commissioned in 2018, while the TAP pipeline - in 2020.”

He said that the work on all four elements of the Southern Gas Corridor, according to the preliminary data, is estimated at $50 billion.

im really happy about these news but like @usernamless says im also worry about russians it doesn't make sense why they are silent about it ?

these are the things russians can do

1- use tajikistan as leverage on turkmenistan since this country is a water source for Ceyhun river
2- use iran to close it's border and start a water fight against turkmenistan
3- baycott goods to turkmenistan
4- baycott turkmen goods
5- use russians in turkmenistan to terror attacks (abadan explosions in 2011 is a example ) the city of turkmenbashi is a city which have large number of russian/armenians (armenians came after karabakh war from azerbijan ) they may use this to as excuse to take eastren part of turkmenistan just like ukraine
6- start a uprasing mainly with non turkmens and try to reinstall pro russians whom fled the country since people still can speak russian and watch russian tv they have great advantage
7- use militry force to stop pipline - caspian disput still stand both iran and russian can use this as excuse to send their militry force to stop pipline
8- use iran for hit and run attacks on turkmen border guards and use their tv to show turkmen gov are incompetent and turkmenistan need russian protection
9- pay money for militias in afghanistan to attack turkmenistan
10- stop buying turkmenistan gas
11- stop giving piece of military equipment
12- dont let turkmenistan to sell it's oil from volga river

these are the things turkmenistan can do

1- if tajikistan cut the water this will also effect uzbekistan , islam karimov is a close ally to china turkmens also close to chinese . i remember islam karimov the angry giant of CA once said of tajikistan build dam on river he will attack tajikistan and dont care about russian/tajik alliance he is well backed by china and im sure russian wont start a fight with chines for sake of tajiks

2- use azerbijan port and railway to get to turkey and rest of the world turkmenistan working with israel to make water from caspian sea /underground water

3- look for turkey and other country for needs of turkmenistan spacilly food , device , car and alcoholic drinks
4- azerbijan and turkey should buy turkmen goods , they are mainly textile and petrochemical (turkmenistan is among 10 top cotton producer and have a lot of oil/gas )
5-6-7-8-9 turkey and azerbijan should backed turkmenisan in this difficult times turkey should train and give equipment to turkmen police to stop uprasing politcly they should help turkmenistan aginst russia in it's come to hit and run attacks azerbijan and turkish force in afghanistan should take care of militias in afghanistan than deployed in turkmen-iran border azerbijan and turkmenistan should exchange military equipment for short time like turkmenistan should give jets and recive drons

11- dont use russian made military equipment and buy some non russian toys

since caspian disput still not solved there is another solution/theory which more likely will lead to happy ending we should talk with russian and iranian side

iranian in caspian sea dont want water terrtory they want free and secure access to volga so they could send their oil with out problems , russian want to keep gas price in EU on certain level if we join iranian-russian energy block we will have largest gas field and also we will have one of the greatest oil field too , we must make sure russia will still make the gas price in Europe and we follow their rules and some part of money come from EU to turkmenistan economy will spend on russian goods so indirectly the money will go to russia i thing this is the stongest theory we have here ! iran is good with turkmenistan and probly helping turkmenistan in border with afghanistan russia backed azerbijan and turkmenistan in caspian sea dispute and now they are silent about the pipline since west sanctioned russian gas/oil so more likely they will get the money indirectly via turkmenistan-azerbijan

Not that I'm an analyst of any kind but my humble opinion is that TANAP is a win-win situation for us. One of our biggest setbacks is the huge energy bill. We can attain much cheaper gas through this pipeline than buying from the unfriendly mullahs. Even this is a win scenario, can't understand why the gov't is insisting on buying expensive gas from Iran? We will no doubt be a regional player in gas, Russia and the EU are on bad terms, see the latest reports on what price Putin is paying for lower gas prices. We + can Azerbaycan will secure the lost quantity of gas, will be a big gamecard on a political level. The Russians are feeling the heat..
