Yuanwang 4 Sunk by Carrier killer missle DF21 in One test?

Which existing defense treaty between the U.S. and Taiwan are you referring to? The website for the U.S. State Department states that the defense treaty had been terminated decades ago.

Taiwan

"Following de-recognition, the United States terminated its Mutual Defense Treaty with Taiwan. However, the United States has continued the sale of appropriate defensive military equipment to Taiwan in accordance with the Taiwan Relations Act, which provides for such sales and which declares that peace and stability in the area are in U.S. interests. Sales of defensive military equipment are also consistent with the 1982 U.S.-P.R.C. Joint Communiqué."

Yes I should have left Taiwan out of the list. Japan, and South Korea ;)

Don't expect the U.S. to sit on the sidelines though in any invasion attempt. Just as the U.S. will not sit on the sidelines in any serious attempt to destroy Israel. Even though we dont have a self defense treaty with them.

*The U.S. is interested though in peaceful reunification of Taiwan.

The U.S. isn't going to declare war on China. But it will honor it's treaty obligations with South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. So actually the ball is in China's court.

china won't go to war with U.S. we still own them money

.
actually i am more certain that china won't declare on U.S. then U.S. won't declare on china. chinese government leaders seems competent and calculating, they don't seem the loony type who would risk a nuclear war. the U.S. has me more worried. for example, if some idiot like Sarah Palin was elected president...

There are a lot of what if's in war, especially in the heat of battle. And just becuase China's public policy is no first strike. If China was taking severe losses from say U.S. submarines and stealth aircraft. There would be a a lot of preassure to ratchet up the battle to try and overcome losses.

If China was taking severe losses, then that's when the DF-21D comes into play. DF-21D is an alternative to WMDs, in a way. If the PLA is desperate, the DF-21D would be used to target large mobile ships and possibly ground bases as well. No country would risk total devastation just because their conventional forces are suffering.

Take this example: in the Gulf War and the 2003 Iraq War, hundreds of Scud missiles were fired at US forces. These missiles could have contained chemical or biological weapons. Yet, the US never retaliated. This is because US defenses know that it`s very unlikely that WMDs are used in short- and medium-range attacks.

lol, Sara Palin is not going to be elected president. More likely Mitt Romney or Mike Huckaby if Obama loses re-election. It's amazing how much people freak out over Sara Palin. The election outcome will depend on the state of the economy.

Because the US made it clear that if Saddam Hussein ever decide to use NBC weapons, we would respond in kind and disproportionately. For China and the DF-21, the US could craft a policy different from Iraq because 'China is not Iraq', remember?

Any use of nukes takes everything to a whole new level. The Chinese know this as well as the U.S.

China is not going to commit suicide to destroy a carrier.

Any large-scale war on China and the U.S. are both committed suicide, but if there is war, attacking U.S. aircraft carrier fleet is a necessarily choice, if the United States to use nuclear weapons, it is the U.S. crazy, no problem, let us go crazy, do you think China has not nuclear counterattack capability?

Be careful about that. Unlike China, there are regular regime changes. If it is possible for a black to become President, what make you think it is impossible for Viet to become President? Here in Las Vegas and in California's Little Saigon, Viets are more conservative than they are liberal.

Vietnamese American Republican Coalition

Ain't that a scary nightmare for China...???

It was a no really dream, really.

Yes, this is a direct cause for China to enhance military power, China has a legitimate reason.:azn:

I said earlier and I repeat.

Its quite obvious that an attack on a carrier is the last resort and something which will be one step short of the "unthinkable".

But in that case, to make DF-21 a weapon which can be used in a normal war scenario, then it should be optimized for usage on a carrier's escort ships rather than the carrier itself.

Such an event can serve the purpose of halting a battle group's advances without causing any damage to the carrier itself.

Only a full-scale war, in order to use it, but if the United States using carrier , China will certainly use it. We can only pray that there is no war.

I seriously doubt the veracity of the claim when one says the missile can sink an air craft carrier in a single go. The US has significant expertise in the field of AC's and development of counter measures. Even if it does manage to hit, sinking the ship with that hit is still highly unlikely due to the ingenious design employed.

China knows that the use of any WMD will result in retaliation. No one will risk it during a war. Even when Saddam`s ground and air forces were pretty much eliminated by Desert Storm, he still refrained from using chemical weapons.

The terminal velocity of the DF-21 reentry vehicle is faster than Mach 10. That is enough to make the warhead heat up to a point where it glows.

Even an asteroid the size of the DF-21 warhead would provide enough kinetic and thermal energy to flatten a city block.

The DF-21 would be equipped with hardened points for penetration, and this, combined with the terminal velocity and heat, would be more than sufficient to slice through an aircraft carrier. Even a conventional 2000 lb bomb dropped from a bomber can put a hole through the deck. An incoming ballistic missile travelling at 10 times the speed of sound is more than enough.

The DF-21D is equipped with a 600 kg high explosive warhead.

So basically:
Mach 10 velocity + penetration warhead + 600 kg is not something that can be stopped easily

It's not, but what he's saying is that not stopping it doesn't mean the end of an AC. If a DF-21D can land a direct hit, it'll carry a punch for sure, but enough to sink a supercarrier? That's doubtful.
