A lot of money is needed to operate and to maintain some SSBNs and SSNs, which is quite financial problem for the present PN.

After Pakistan fixs its economy and stabilizes its internal affairs, I think China will eventually assist Pakistan to build its own SSBN and SSN in the near future.

well the Yuan class can not be termed as an alternative to U214 deal...
but yes it can be a fall back plan or even a future potential buy after the U214 as then they can be modified accordig to experience PN dockyard will get after the agostas and u214z!

But Yuan class is even a lot better than Song class. It is quiter, more powerful weapon system, has more advanced sensors and dive deeper. It DOES have AIP.

Yuan is currently PLAN's state of the art dissle sub.

Pakistan Navy has the experience of oprating and maintaing western subs for 40 years. PN also built the third French Augusta in Karachi. PN should start looking at manufacturing subs based on the 40 years on knowledge. Though it may take some years but will b beneficial in thee long term. Iran has strated with smaller subs but that is a good start for them.

This is indeed the case and PN has put forward the modifications it needs in its variant. So far, Yuan is the most capable Chinese conventional submarine out there having a Kilo influence externally, equipped with state of the art combat, command control system, more depth and range, longer range anti ship missiles and above all, the sterling based AIP system for sneak attack. It will be a lethal asset along with our Agusta 90bs for sure.

I guess this is the right decision by PN to go for it . Get it inducted as soon as possible alongwith its manufacturing facilities at our shipyard...cuz we wasted too much time waitin for U214.

Yuan is Chinese improvement on Russia's Kilo class (perhaps slightly inferior to Russia's Amur class). Song was already retrofitted with AIP. Yuan has an improved version of AIP.

Pakistan is in no financial shape to buy expensive European submarines like U214. U214 would be in the same class as China's newest SSK -- the successor to Yuan (Type 039B?).

we are not getting the 214.. if anyone wants to quote me on that they can .. we are getting subs that are chinese made .. they are not better but they are going to fill the gap.. thats all that we should be concentrating on .. we have no pockets to fill in the rest of what is required of a operating financially stable country..
