Considered the world's cheapest car, the Tata Nano, has arrived in Nepal and was expected to hit the streets Wednesday.

Launched in January 2008 in India as the "people's car, the 624 CC cars were initially priced at IRs 100,000 (US $2,200) as was touted as the cheapest car on the planet. However, Nepali consumers will have to pay more than US$13,000 due to heavy import fees.

The four-door Nano is a little over 10 feet long and nearly 5 feet wide. Nepal will be Nano’s second international market.

Tata Motors launched the car in Sri Lanka on last Saturday. The car, according to the manufacturers, has met the Euro 3 standards.

To publicize the vehicle and demonstrate its suitability to the country's terrain, two Nanos will travel 40,000 kilometers through Nepal, according to the Nepal distributor, Sipradi Trading Pvt. Ltd.

How much would a lexus be in Nepal then...

I`m not sure about that.lexus is not yet available there.well 13000 dollars=937878.60 nepalese rupees
so 1 indian rupee = nepalese rupee is 1.60
13000 dollars = 583571.6 indian rupee.cars in nepal are expensive yaar:woot:

wait hmmm 583571.6 indian RS X 1.60=933714.56 nepalese rupee.still expensive lol

. .
Can't some Nepali with Indian connection buy the car in India and drive it to Nepal? I am sure a lot of them must be doing that, since the border movement is so porous.

According to this report , The Himalayan Times : Cheapest car starts Nepal Yatra - Detail News : Nepal News Portal

It will cost about 700,000 NPR. Thats around 10,000 USD. And lets not forget that this car will still be the cheapest in the market by a good margin, cause the duty isn't just for the Nano, its for every other car.

Bull****, why such huge Import duty??? Import duty is put to discourage import and incourage home grown industry... Nepal shall reduce its import duty...

Nano is 150,000 INR, keep 50% import duty so at nepal it will cost 225,000 INR which is equals to 360,000 Nepali rupee or 4900 USD.. 100%v import duty is too much... :x
