Considered the world's cheapest car, the Tata Nano, has arrived in Nepal and was expected to hit the streets Wednesday.
Launched in January 2008 in India as the "people's car, the 624 CC cars were initially priced at IRs 100,000 (US $2,200) as was touted as the cheapest car on the planet. However, Nepali consumers will have to pay more than US$13,000 due to heavy import fees.
The four-door Nano is a little over 10 feet long and nearly 5 feet wide. Nepal will be Nanos second international market.
Tata Motors launched the car in Sri Lanka on last Saturday. The car, according to the manufacturers, has met the Euro 3 standards.
To publicize the vehicle and demonstrate its suitability to the country's terrain, two Nanos will travel 40,000 kilometers through Nepal, according to the Nepal distributor, Sipradi Trading Pvt. Ltd.
