World high speed railway speed survey 2013

The immediate answer in congress. They raised indirect taxes and dint raise train prices to please the people but it backfired and now they had no option.

Believe me, Even if the train prices are doubled overnight. The trains will still be running at more than 90% of the capacity. There are a lot of people who are going my Buses just because they couldn't get a confirmed ticket.

because of your population public transportation can never meet the demand
we are not worrying about the capacity of ordinary transportation here
we are talking about the fare hike's impact into average indian joes' livelihoods

Thats why we are building more subways, monorails and BRTS s and building more rail lines. Also the average 'Indian joe' was able to cope up with Inflation in other sectors of life

.
the case is if there is a fare hike for reduction of the railway's deficits, then where does the fare hike cut into the daily earnings of your people? food, fuel, educations unless you people can get a corresponding hike in your income!

You won't back down. will you? The salaries of all employees in the Govt and Pvt sector are revised every year. and I think its the same everywhere. So the fare hike will come from salary hikes.

Passenger-km is more in India compared to China, its highest in the world.

How you are predicting only fewer passengers are affordable?? your question will be answered in real once the project is implemented. The charges in Indian buses are almost three times the train charges, everyone knows still how indian buses are crowded. So definitely there is no doubt for adequate passengers, only we need to think about adequate trains.

Power crisis not only the problem for India, almost every country in the world is facing even for china too. Thats a different problem and that needs to addressed.

You set this power shortage record over 50% of your people were affected
We are nowhere near that magnitude.

you need to have some fundamental figures to calculate the price vs benefit or deficits accurately
but usually when you are financing a huge project like HSR, the must be a price premium higher than average transportation costs. Again it depends on the ticket price which can easily fall into a price-demand-elasticity model where the sensitivity can be gauged there

But on a cursory observation, if you average people can only afford cheap transportation I wonder how many of the people can afford more pricey HSRs and how much your government is going to subsidize at the expense of your ballooning deficits?

DO u know in India there are tickets called tatkal tickets whose price is 25-30% more than the normal tickets and those tickets are sold a day before the departure of a particular train and believe it or not ALL the tickets will be sold out in 2 hours. So you can understand the demand.

Is China's HSR making any profit, will you provide us any statistics.

some sections are
the other sections are not - it takes time to have all the gels come together

Your first question is already answered in my previous comment. Indian bus charges are almost three times the train charges, but still there are huge demand for more number for buses.

For your Information, we are not implementing HSR in all the routes so people who cant afford the price is not going to affect in any way.

again as I said there is a tipping point where the HSR ticket prices become unaffordable to most frequent travellers

records are meant to be broken....I salute to those who made it first...followers always counted as non-first no matter how tall is their new achievement!

The HSR will not be made all over India at once. First we will begin with cities whose average income is more. The HSR will be an alternative to air travel. Dont you think people who can afford air travel can afford HSR?

There is a difference, China is building HSR for infrastructure boom to keep high GDP growth while in India it is mainly for passenger traffic. It is highly doubtful that China's HSR is even making business.
