Y vista? Win 7 is actually a bug and loophole-free version of Vista and is better optimized fro Quad core as well as x64. upgrade to that.
Dual boot is nifty, but the Utilities of Ubuntu is pointless and serves only the purpose of Learning Linux if u need it in ur study or job.
Linux is a dead end if u dont use it for anything other than base entertainment or if u have old-harware.

What you say is true but I dont use windows much to invest money for Win7.......my purpose is served well by Vista+Ubuntu.....

hahah its ok its just that maemo 5 based n900 really rocks with ubuntu. you can ssh to it without connecting cables u can install vnc and connect your desktop from anywhere in the world. sync your system and phone without any cables or something

and as far as ubuntu goes for smaller apps WINE always does the trick for everthing else there is oracle virtualbox

Hmm... now seems I should try for a new phone.....waise bhi I am bored with my (now) ugly N-72.....any idea how to recycle old phone.....

Though I am not at all impressed by WINE.....may be as you say virtual box may help......

i beg to differ windows can never provide with the networking support as linux does and that too free. with windows either you end up with the pirated version of softwares or end up emptying your pockets. windows eats up too much of system resources and OS is quite heavy. even 7 32 bit wont run fine within the constraint of 4 gb ram if you install heavy softwares when the net capacity of 32 bit is 4gb only.

ok first of all Ram does squat if not optimized with enough BUSS or sufficient Processing if ur systems bottlenecked, Ram does very little..RAm is a buffer its not meant to increase speed but rather eliminate stutter in projection output.
These are my specs...an old Q6600 +4gigs corsair + HD 6950+ 3TB hard drive total..ive used X64 Win 7 for 2 years now without so much as a BSOD and it runs faster than Xp or linux ...
Y? Cus its better optimized for a Quad as well as the Catalyst/Drivers For the GPU are also optimized better For a Win 7 OS.
yes i use a Cracked Win 7 and most of my stuff is cracked ; except for a few occasional stuff i support . whats ur Point?

As i stated it boils down to preference but i assure u Speed and stability is not exclusive to Linux if any...
Linux is just a cheap low Gpu intensive Os for mainstream requirements.. If ur an Enthusiast like me Linux is a dead end.

go to 10th floor and slip it from the terrace. i am sure it will be recycled.... thats how i recycled my N82...

WINE works fine with programs which are not much dependent on windows dlls....

One more good thing about linux is it's start time......

20 seconds (they claim 12 sec thogh) with SSD.......and shut down in 4 seconds......

I hope Win7 does not beat that......

thats the whole point of the story man that you will need quad core with at least 4gb ram to achieve something which can be achieved just with 1gb ram and duo core within linux. though i use quad core myself the diff in the memory usage is huge and speed constraints are too high....

as far as ram goes with the speed it impacts at the time of paging. now with smaller ram you cannot have the entire software which you are running to be loaded at once. at the same time when your OS itself is taking too much of space there is hardly any space left for other programs...

then for a naive user windows by default start up so many programs which are not actually required by the user.

I am against wastage of any sort be it some electronic gadget or the precious blood......hence I dont agree with your valuable advice on this single occasion.....

Hmm.... I tried Ovi suite, Pc suite, Yahoo mesaanger etc.. etc... not much success so far.....hopefully they will improve it in future....

though a pirated Microsoft office 2007 worked like charm......

As im a indulgent gamer u can figure where my priorities lie with an OS ;and Linux doesn't fulfill it ...hence the inclination toward windows.

4gig ddr3 ram cost 2600RS today...idont thnk its so much of an hurdle if u save a little ...and Win7 at peak reserves arnd 650-700 mb of Ram..the rest of the 3.3gigs of ram is meant for smooth gaming or App performance as well as multitasking.
And Btw 2gb of Ram is more than enuf if u want to run Win7 ..but dont expect it to be superfast and crisp.... 4gb is just so that u dont even have to wait a second for closing a categorically demanding game and return to surfing.

yeah as a gamer windows is best... but if you need like computing nothing beats linux....

No, IE9 is radical. It's lot better than firefart and Chrome. FF is POS, buggy, memory hog, it crashes very often.
