Will Vietnam Be America’s Next Strategic Partner?

If vietnam became a "strategic partner" of US it will become another afghanistan!!
It will be reannexed as China former Province of Annam. Don't give China an excuse.
As I says, Hanoi leadership are not that stupid like the Khmer Krom from the South.
One of the military objectives of the 1979 invasion was to demonstrate to Vietnamese that their protector and strategic partner won't show up. It didn't.
To lose sight of a forest because of one tree.

China is afraid to invade Vietnam against. They don' want a repeat like last time.

Kids, kids love to fight.

Only the Khmer Krom Vietnamese from the South.

Vietnam was founded by a general of the Qin Dynasty.

South Vietnam as annexed at the command of Emperor of Middle Kingdom after it continue to harass the Chinese Kingdom of Annam.

Now you know why the Northern Vietnamese are the smarter one.

No, Vietnam existed as a tribe long before that.

One of our first events were fighting against chinese domination. Please do not make mistake.

Vietnam has many tribal ethnicities esp. in the North but in the South the Khmer Krom is the dominant group.

it depends on which source you are reading. This will depends on what you believe.

I have read and research this conflict quite well in the past with even reports from Asahi Simbun discounting Vietnamese claims as nonsense then.
The Japanese reporters was in the same location which the Vietnam claimed to have killed ovet a thousand soldiers of their enemies.
According to him, it was so quiet even one can hear the birds chirps. How did Vietnamese killed a thousand Chinese soldiers. Were they using bow and arrows?

I can still clearly remember back in days of NAM, Vietnamese claimed that they shot down 10,000 US warplanes including B-52 and killed well over a million American GI.

I will just named a couple of things for you to ponder about regarding the 1979 Sino-Vietnamese war.

1. Vietnam claimed that they killed thousands of PLA troops practically every day.
That immediately defied logic as how can retreating Vietnamese army count the enemy deads.

2. Before the war got started China already released an itinerary of their short offensive and their withdrawal was as scheduled.

They occupied the mountainous region they captured for one month, why didn't Vietnam put up any resistance.

3. China used the phrase. "Utilizing the butcher knife to slaughter a chicken (Vietnam)."
Example. The city of Langson was flattened inch by inch. How could Vietnamese survived such intense bombardment?
After that PLA just took a stroll in the landscape of Langson and took pictures like Japanese tourists. These ate all documented.

4. The flag of the elite Vietnam Flying Tiger is now hanging in the wall of Guangzhou Border Guard garrison. The entire Vietnamese Flying Tiger no longer existed and was annihilated during this war.

5. The mine laying tactics used by the retreating Vietnamese soldiers do not worked as Chinese PLA troops are not Americans. But it did succeeded in staggering and delaying the advancement.

6. China only deployed 80,000 border guards and not hundreds of thousands as alleged by Vietnam. This was confirmed by USA satellite photos.

7. In this particular conflict, neither the Chinese Air Force or Navy was involved but this won't be the case in the next war.

Your father Mr. Lee do this.

US Vice-President Kamala Harris visits South-East Asia to deepen ties, counter China's influence

Ms Harris met with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and President Halimah Yacob on Monday.

I do not waste my time debating with rude trolls esp. those who lacks the understanding of history as well as the geopolitical interests of the region.

What happened in Singapore is nothing new or significant?

In other words, a failed trip that achieved absolutely nothing.

What I see is China retreating after invading Vietnam.

.
Vietnam should join but Vietnam cannot bring too much to the table

the real players are Japan, South Korea and Australia

and we can add Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam into another group

off UK has proved its presence in South China Sea with its Carrier deployment

I hope Vietnamese comrads will not make such an imprudent move. It is like become Hitler's ally in 1944. USA and its vassals will fail, they can not win against Russia and China. So I suggest Vietnam to make deal with China. It is the only way.

There is indeed a different.

Firsty China has confidently informed USA and the world of its intention, that was way before it happened.
Meaning there was no excuse of Vietnamese defenders claiming element of surprise for their defeat in the mountainous geographical region to their advantage.

Second even before the imvasion started PLA set its itinerary and schedule stating the duration and the time of withdrawal.
I don' t recalled Pentagon ever doing that although its military M.O. is quite predictable even up till tody.

PLA withdrawal was done very orderly without any single incidence nor resistance from Vietnam.

I can't see how Americans nor USA itself has the audacity to compare or parallel its humiliating retreat from Saigon with that of China.

Whereas US never really set its time-table of withdrawal nor really has the real intention of leaving to leave Afghanistan based on
1. Its prepareness and hasty withdrawal with State Secretary Antony Blinkens admitting at Recent Senate hearing that there are still thousands of US citizens that are left behind in Afghanistan
2. the Republicans reaction which IMO is Operation Retreat 2 today.

So basically we can safely regarded all USA withdrawal from its war of occupation so far in all these nations including Somalia as RETREAT.

USA claimed only 6000 US servicemen were killed and ONLY 100,000 Afghans were killed. Even the Americans themselves don't believe it.

Do we trusts these figures after new statistics claimed more than 30,000 US war veterans had committed suicide?

Vietnam is “Finland” in the context of this new Cold War; right on the border, fought a border war against the neighboring communist state and kept independent, and is now allied (in all but name) with the US, from which to run intel ops.

looking back at the kind of ops run out of Finland during the Cold War will give an indication of the kind of things planned to be done via Vietnam.

Normal Vietnamese have lots of cultural affinity with Chinese even though there is really lots of anti Chinese feeling among them. I give you an example. Today Vietnamese are fast giving up Vietnamese name and adopt Chinese naming style.

Chinese songs are red hot in Vietnam.

The anti Chinese feeling is due to government propaganda and can be easily reversed.
