Will the US defend Philippines if China attacks?

I don't agree with you one bit.

No American is more patriotic than I in arguing American lives should not be wasted on other countries' disputes.

However, I won't delve into personal issues.

My citations (see post #63) speak for themselves.

You sir sounds like a chinese to me more than an american :drag:

We will quickly sink all of your garbage into the bottom of SCS sea so that the traffic through SCS will be as normal as usual. You do not have to worry about it.

Yes, during this time and for at this moment, U.S still staying at neutral possition for Free Navigation Route in SCS. However China keeps going crazy and things are turns bad then U.S could changes its mind.

Yes, during this time no U.S troops staying in Subic, Cam Ranh. I don't know about Philippines, However, Viet Nam has people willing to fight and its fight for best.

Yes, during this time U.S has zero aids for Viet Nam nor Philippines to against China, However, things are escalated and Free Nagivation Route could not happens, then U.S will supplies whatever its needed to be.

Gambit did not claims anything, he just try to correct you from wrong to right, However, you miss guided then turns out that you put words in his mouths.

How can you respect a chinese, if every comeback they make is all about bombing us
Oh god, this site is full of delusional kids

We never know what will happen. Anyway, the title as well as the comments of the Chiness in this forum show that China seems to be afraid of US.

You gear shifted.

Tell me about this, "Why China keep waiting when its think can be able to sink all our garbage into the bottom SCS?"

China can't do that, and its does not have balls.

Something that China could do then its will started like SanSha City, Tibet, or getting some reefs in Spratly Islands.

^THIS

If China believes they are far superior compare to their neighborhood, then why impose a "Do not engage first"?
Why rely on bullying?

They are scared of something that we all know what it is
They can't accept the reality.
Their government knows that everyone will turn their back against the China if they engage first

It happens in the past, it will happen again

it is not that china is afraid of US on this issue like the vietnamese interpreted. the evidence is that after the Clinton attended the ASEAN summit, the china escalated on the dispute issue instead of retreating like what vietnam and philippine expected when they tried to involve US.
it is for the world stability, both china and US want to avoid this scenario. both countries need stability for development.
US will have no chance to win the war in south china sea completely if defending for philippine. china is not a third country like iraq or afghanistan! if the US involves in and wants to win the war against china, the cost is more than its ability. american is smart enough to deal with another better option

Like I said last few posted above and yes, U.S for now still demaind that its will not takes side on Philippines disputes or any disputes.

U.S also said that its will fully support for Free Navigation Route in SCS, this is very clear message to China. More than that, in the signed of MTD between U.S and Philippines, U.S may not getting involve in direct fight with China, but it is also not tied up U.S will fully support weapons, training for Philippines Army's.

So, with all that being said, U.S already big help with Philippines people and its also keeping the pledge of Treaty's has been signed.

U.S does not needed to win a war with China in direct fight, but its also win caused for now China just like "Torn between to lovers"

I've always said I'm Taiwanese-American of Chinese origin with an American passport.

I couldn't care less what a third-world Filipino (like you) thinks.

I live in a high-rise tower by the ocean. You probably live in a mud hut.

The recent activities of China clearly make the asean sea unstable while US tries to make it stable again.
US may not defense Phillippine directly but for sure they will help Phillippine in some ways since they are allies. US will also defense the free navigation route since it affects other allies such as Japan, South Korea. Two USS North Carolina are enough to bring back the stability.

Not really the scenario any more, man. I doubt you guys will ever intervene in other countries' wars even if shyte hits the fan for them. Not specifically the Filipinos, but the entire eastern belt. Let's see, your military encouragement to Georgians nearly had them obliterated by Russia; North Korea still exists and Japan's concerns against the Communists is only increasing; perhaps more than what it used to be during Soviet era. Not to mention, Taiwan is getting weary of US indecision to supply it weapons.

Indeed the foundation of US military and strategic might has been its commitment towards its allies but if things go bad here and you don't intervene in any visible manner, the remaining belt of allies won't be very pleased with you.

Just thinking it out loud.

North Korea, Japan, Georgia, and Taiwan are unrelated and irrelevant to my statements, it is based purely on the treaty terms and the assumption of US self interest in preserving its treaty commitments that form the basis of its military power (specifically its projections), as you agree with.

If you start with the assumption that the US has no interest in preserving its treaty commitments then we are simply talking past each other.

Martian, your own posts give most people the gist of where your loyalties and sympathies lie, and what they think of it differs widely based on their own loyalties and sympathies. You would be near the bottom of the list of people I look to for arguing in America's self-interest in Asia (unless that self interest benefits China) though.

Lack of U.S. carrier proves U.S. does not support the Philippines

You've just proved the U.S. does not support the Philippines. What did Clinton do to send a message to Beijing over Taiwan? He sent two U.S. carrier battle groups through the Taiwan Strait in 1996.

Tell me, when was the last time you saw an U.S. carrier battle group anywhere near the South China Sea?
