Will not roll back nuclear programme even if debts swell to $100 trillion: Dar

Harr koi Jeena Chahta hai bhaijaan.
Kids who talk about nuking each other must not be loving their family and Friends.

true, sir... sometimes pdf is so saddening, and it is not just the desis but the iranians, turks, saudis and the europeans too.

which is why about a month ago i had bid farewell to almost all political threads and was spending more time in the science/technology section and the female-appreciation threads and the 'what are you listening' thread and other such threads.

Only civilian grade Uranium should be used for generation electricity cause we are a electricity hungry nation.
Thorium could do wonders , and it's in final stages of development.

good point.

and best is decentralized power generation either at neighborhood level or house level... thorium is being championed in government circles in india but i don't know if it can be safely used for such purposes.

however, please do look at this post and the subsequent discussion from some days ago on power generation methods other than fission :

it would be nice if you participate there.

Thorium is the future in our country because it can be extracted easily and has nearly zero pollution of any kind be it radioactive or air.
200 years of surplus electricity estimated after it's full development.

“We will not roll back our nuclear programme even if our debts swell to $100 trillion”

What a strange boast. Because if Pakistan's debts did swell that high it could certainly afford it's nuclear program! It's the contraction of debt that could pose a financial threat, not the expansion.
Agreed. It will be lenders' headache to recover $100 trillion debt.
But Pakistan has every right to do what it deems fit for its safety including possession of nukes. In 1971 when Pakistan was balkanized by India, none of its allies like the US and China came to her rescue. So the lesson learnt is that when it comes to your existence, only you fight for your survival. What the world fears is that Pakistani nukes may fall in hands of al qaida, isis or taliban or similar rogue elements and their concern is genuine too.

Not the rest of the world, but the west and namely america don't want a single Muslim country that possess a strong military, has nuclear weapons and has the potential to produce high tech weaponary. The americans want ALL Muslim nations to be as weak as Iraq and Afghanistan so they can committ a similar holocaust against Pakistan.

Not really. Most militarily strong muslim nations like Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt etc. are allies of the US.

But apart from Pakistan none of those nations possess nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are the great equalizer to overwhelming massive conventional weapon superiority. Iraq was also an ally of america and look what the americans did to them. Pakistan was/is also on the same neo con hit list of nations that Iraq and Afghanistan were on. There is a reason why the americans havn't attacked Pakistan like it did to those nations.

Its not a genuine concern.
If there is a probability of "nuclear weapons" falling into wrong hands, its equal for all countries. If a muslim fundamentalist can take hold of a nuclear weapon and launch it across, so can be a hindu fundamentalist or some jew or racially motivated "white"
Pakistan nuclear devices are "coded" one. Will never explode until that code sequences are matched. The worst could be a "dirty" bomb. Where there is a limited exposure of radiation.

ISLAMABAD:
“We will not roll back our nuclear programme even if our debts swell to $100 trillion,” says Finance Minister Ishaq Dar dismissing outright Western media reports that suggest Islamabad could barter its nuclear arsenal for dollars.

“We did not start this [nuclear] programme to roll it back,” Dar told lawmakers in the upper house of parliament on Wednesday. “This is a programme of our security, and it is a national responsibility to protect it,” he added. “All political parties of Pakistan share the ownership of our nuclear programme.”

US expresses concern over security of Pakistan’s nuclear stockpile

The finance minister was briefing the house on the country’s economy. And at the end of his policy statement, he referred to a 2008 article in Wall Street Journal headlined ‘Let’s Buy Pakistan’s Nukes’ in which the author asked Western donors to agree on a $100 billion economic package in exchange for eliminating Pakistan’s nuclear stockpile.

“This will never happen,” Dar said emphatically. He mentioned another article which suggested the ever-ballooning debt may lead Pakistan to compromise on its national security assets. “Even if our debts swell to $100 billion or $100 trillion, we will not roll back our nuclear programme.”

Dar’s forceful statement came after US Secretary of State John Kerry pressed Pakistan at this week’s strategic dialogue to reduce its growing nuclear arsenal. Dar did not mention Kerry’s statement but Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani asked Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs to brief the house on this issue along with others.

Aziz would brief the house next Tuesday but Foreign Office has already issued a statement in which Aziz has “impressed upon the United States not to contribute to strategic imbalance in South Asia by helping India. He emphasised that the convergences in the relationship outweigh the irritants.”

On the demand of leader of the opposition Aitzaz Ahsan, the chair asked Aziz to brief the house on his Tuesday’s statement in which he said “Pakistan has some influence over the Afghan Taliban since their leadership lives here”. Ahsan also sought a briefing on Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s allegation that the non-state actors who carried out the Pathankot airbase assault had support of the state of Pakistan.

Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal could become world’s third-biggest: report

Published in The Express Tribune, March 3rd, 2016.
And what is Obama doing about it? Gifting Pakistan instead with another tranche of $850 million including 8 F-16 for the so called WOT! It's raining dollars for Pakistan never mind if the American public is pissed off at where their hard earned tax dollars are going!

If I were in the government, I would roll backed the nuclear weapons. They are not just some weapons of war, but are threat to the very existence of human race
This pacifist approach was the reason for the mayhem in India brought by Sword worshippers from west .....
No more pacifism dear, its not a question of morality but the survival of 1.2 bn ppl .....
India needs to do everything even indulging in immoral activity to thwart any danger to its ppl & safeguarding its long term interest....

Same can be said about indian nukes and the rest of the world.
Nukes are not bombs, they are not some kind of TNT or grenede that you throw at some one
World should also be concerned about Indian facilities, what will happen if terrorists attack indian facilities and indian forces show the same performance it showed at Pathankort and takes a week to get to terrorists?

Indian forces performance in dealing with terrorists attacks is the worst in the entire world from Mumbai to Pathankort and is a worrying factor w.r.t indian nuclear facilities.

Beside US who else has concerns?
While US also has alot of concerns about india for treating its minorities, if you consider US concerns about Pak nukes legitimate then concerns about india must also be right

Pakistan has a lot of 'pre occupation' at this moment that turned Pakistan into a target from many angles. These are expensive high stake game ! This situation requires insurance policies like nukes. But there are much cheaper and better options :
If Pakistan transforms itself into a country that is only focused on business and prosperity for her citizen , something like Sweden , there will not be any need for nukes. Some food for thought.
