Will Mumbai surpass Shanghai in 2020?

In 2004, Former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh boldly declared:

"I share this aspiration with the chief minister [Sushilkumar Shinde] and senior Congress leaders to transform Mumbai in the next five years in such a manner that people would forget about Shanghai and Mumbai will become a talking point."

More than 15 years have passed since that declaration. India is set to become a superpower in only a few days. I wonder if Mumbai will finally surpass Shanghai in 2020...

Shanghai has strode through the way much ahead of Mumbai in its league. Catching it is out of question for next 30 years minimum..

Mumbai isn't bad, I live here; however one of my colleagues recently been to shanghai on business trip and he couldn't stop praising the infra CCP has developed there.. Mumbai has its problems of overcrowding and poor infra.. Its managing somehow at the moment.. But if there isn't any big turn around in terms of development, then Mumbai wont be among best of the work cities.

Chandigarh is probably the only new city they developed and it didn't even come close to Islamabad standard of a city . It is same dirty piss smelling , small roads city with no mark.
But they are too proud of it as though it is 7th wonder of the world. Don't know why ? But their slums of cities are even more dirtier I guess

Mumbai has a whole day to grow between now and up to Shanghai's levels, but since people are busy in protest, hating each other and sending some of their countrymen to Pakistan, looks like India won't be able to make it.
