Three days after derogatory remarks about Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s wife, BJP’s Dewas MP Manohar Untwal has courted another controversy by threatening to “eliminate” those who "disrespect" Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
" Hamare Pradhan Mantri ko koi apmanit karega, to usko hum yahan (at the feet) rakhte hain. Hamare Mukhya Mantri ka jo apmaan karega, usko to hum duniya se hi gayab karne ki taakat rakhte hain (Those who disrespect our Prime Minister, we will keep that person at our feet. Those who disrespect our Chief Minister (Chouhan), we have the strength to eliminate them from the world)," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Dewas, Manohar Untwal, said.
He was speaking at an event concluding BJP's Kisan Samman Yatra in Shajapur-Polai Kalan on Sunday.
This is not the first time Untwal has courted controversy with his statement.
Last week, Untwal made a derogatory remark against the wife of Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, Amrita Rai.
Speaking at an event in Dewas (Madhya Pradesh) on Thursday, Untwal said, "Digvijay Singh has done nothing for Madhya Pradesh but brought an item from Delhi."
"Now, he is asking why saints have been given red beacon car. He now has a problem with them too," the MP had said.
The Congress took to the streets on Friday demanding action against Untwal for his indecent remark.
A group of Congress leaders also lodged a police complaint against the MP.
Untwal later said his remarks were twisted.
"I respect Digvijaya Singh ji a lot, and I also respect women, my statement has been twisted. No way was I talking about his wife," he said on Friday.
Earlier in January, a BJP leader had alleged that Untwal’s men had abused and beaten him following a dispute over who would carry the flag in a party procession.
In 2013, when the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government faced flak over a number of rape cases, Untwal had argued that in a state with a population of 7.5 crore, rape of 4,500 women was not a big number.
