Why we have lost the race to China

India has all the potential to be rising to the top (top doesn't necessarily mean instead of China, it doesn't have to be lonely at the top). India can manage things well, they have very bright minds. Democratic progress just takes longer. And who said the US is at the top?? Really if you look at the naked truth, the US has only two things working in it's favor (still), 1. military might, 2. financial might (not economic, but financial). Those two things are far easier to surpass than economic might (industry/services etc). So it's merely a matter of time. You'll see a time in which Asia accounts for 80% of world GDP. It's not too far off. Then wtf kind of power would a far away, large island like the US be? Nothing, back to it's introvert past.

Another prediction about the fall of America... LOL

Why would so many people like to do that? It's because when you are on the top, the only way to go is down. I know you are going to say that America is no longer on the top. But numbers, real number, not Indian Vedic numbers, show otherwise. Google the collapse of America, and you will see so many predictions. It's because when the prediction is right, the person could become famous. No one predict the demise of India because who cares about the prediction. But you see a lot of prediction on the collapse of America as this matters more to humanity.

Look at Detroit, Baltimore and the rest of the rustbelt. Even the citizens of Aleppo would hang their heads in shame if they saw that. Anyway, that's not the point. I'm not predicting or hoping for anything. The only reason I would WISH for the US to fall is because they desperately try to cling to their declining power. By trying to contain and sabotage the countries that are organically rising. (putting up the entire Asian continent against China, trying to sabotage their investments in Africa etc)

America is not perfect, but we are not going to collapse like how many had predicted. Some part of America are worse than others. But overall, most Chinese and India would come to America if given a green card. America is where people try to come.

India compares its economic growth and achievements to China’s. It shouldn’t. This isn’t a race and no prize will be awarded. If it was, we have lost and are losing. The talk when I left India was about overtaking China’s current growth rate. The real figure to race against would be China’s growth rate when their economy was the size of ours (it is four times bigger today).

Four times? I am not sure what indicator the OP is referring to? The latest quantitative comparison on major indicators, say on
  • agriculture GDP it was 2.7 times (Note: India has highest % of GDP on agriculture i.e. is an agrarian economy)
  • services GDP 4.3 times
  • overall GDP 5.1 times
  • merchandise exports 7.1 times
  • industrial GDP 8.4 times
  • forex reserves 11.1 times
  • high-technology exports 33.6 times
  • over 124 countries have China as largest trading partners.
  • ....
On reality checks, the gaps are not marginal, but in multiples or even in order of magnitude, comparisons are not required.

With Vedic math, India will be on the top in no time.

That's mostly either rich Chinese/Indians or very poor Chinese/Indians. America has a tiny middle class that keeps shrinking. And good job buddy comparing a country with an average GDP per capita of more than 50.000 per year to countries with average GDP per capita in the single digit thousands.

U.S. Still have the world's largest middle class depends on certain calculations. For example, America still own more cars than any other country in the world. So if middle class in America in tiny, middle class in none existent any where else. Please put away your bias when you respond to me. Otherwise, thre is no point of me responding to your nonsense.

I'm not comparing America to your beloved India. I'm not that I unreasonable.

Massive negligence in social development; Such as universal primary education, parameter where most of the communist/socialist states excelled and strangely a pathetic delusional education policy since the first five year planning in India, basic health care and nutrition sector, proper sanitation and drinking water for the vast number of under privileged, Lack of public accountability of administrative institutions, corruption, poor agricultural and industrial wages (which have in fact become stagnant for the last twenty odd years despite the economic reform of the 90's).

This is the reason why despite having an impressive record of per capita growth India performs worse than African and other south Asian states (even Nepal and Maldives) which have achieved enviable results in all those social indicators. will write in details if time permits.

Sure America has a large middle class, I'm exaggerating a bit. But the auto sector: Americans buy cars with 70 month payment plans, Chinese buy them cash. Chinese folks have huge savings while Americans have huge debts. Cars on the road isn't the right calculation, yearly car purchases is better. Chinese purchase over 22 million cars a year, the Americans about 17 million. And yes, PPP is very important here too, since many Chinese cars are a lot cheaper.
The US does have a middle class, but it's rapidly shrinking. Unfavourable tax policies (favouring the rich and investors), troubles with health care (Obamacare helped a bit, but half the states didn't expand medicare etc). The one thing the US has going for it is that it doesn't need a lot of market reforms. The Europeans are far behind the curve on that one. If the US adjusts its policies a bit, favouring the middle class a bit more, they'll be fine. The market is already as free and open as it can be.
Still, the Chinese have nowhere to go but up. Same for the Indians, even more.

All problems can be solved with strong leadership. With Modi-ji in charge, India is set to become a superpower by 2020.

Idiot thread the OP should be banned from making threads & the author of this BS should be banned from writing

I think this guy is partly correct. But I liked this part the best...

The Han, 90% of China’s population, are a beautiful people, small but not malnourished, radiant of skin and with no body hair. The dominant physical shape is slender and thin.

Bloody hell, the response by some of the Indians to benign criticism from another Indian is very amusing.

The author has written a good article and has praised a country for its achievements and has shone a torch on Indian failings. Causing some severe *** burning.

I am always amazed by the response from some Indians as though they live in a different imaginary India. Come of it guys, who are you trying to kid? Not us, all of us know that India is a hell hole for most of its inhabitants. No wonder there are so many insurgencies, so many suicides (every 30 mins a farmer kills himself), 20 million missing girls!! 700 million below the poverty line, stagnant and polluted rivers and water systems, but off course (slap my head) the indians did invent space travel and were the first people in space (take that Yuri Gargarin), gene therapy - the DNA model was invented by an Indian sage in his cave looking at batmanshit when the idea came to him that the genetic material is contained in all living things in a double helix, so much for Crick and Watson analysing their crystalline -Xrays!! The coup de grace of course is gravity manipulation, Newton's apple is now travelling back up from his head back to the tree where it has reattached itself to the tree's stem probably by some Indian cell regeneration technique.

OK, now that dream is over can the Indians come back to reality and do try not to overlook the slums and garbage heaps all over your damned country.
Right! But we're miles ahead of you! :P It'll take you a century to catch up with us...but even that is doubtful seeing where you guys are heading! :azn:

Miles ahead? yes. That's true.

Pakistan catching up to India? 10-15 years.
