Why was Gandhi killed?

Some @$$hole whose only contribution to the country was to kill a man who lived to liberate his people. Bhakt @$$holes whose right wing organizations made absolutely no contribution to Indian independence come with exotic defences of hisged actions as well new theories about Indian independence. Useless thread. WE should not just have hand Godse, we should have hanged him with piano wires and recorded it for viewing pleasure of posterity.

You have NO right to call that man a "@$$hole" without knowing the entire history about him & the real truth behind the above mentioned incident.

.
We did not gain independence from the British. They gave it too us when we had become a liability. We did not win it, we were given it to us as alms. Natually it was on THEIR terms. THEY divided the country, because they had the right. THEY passed the Independence Acts. So the history taught to us is bogus - our Independence struggle failed. The Brits left due to bad economic situation and defaulting on American loans. Not because our satyagraha was very effective(which it was not).

Yeah, that's why Churchill had gone around the world asking for Indian independence not to be given. That's why he sent John Keynes to Bretton Woods with a scheme based on the continued maintaintainence of the colonial states.

I know more about his history. Bhakt @$$holes.

. .
Lets take an example of Nelson Madela.....
was he able to change his country after he came out from jail??? In my opinion NO.
Gandhi was a popular figure albeit he had limited ability to govern. He simply didn't possess the political acumen to run a fledgling nation and would 've been quietly removed in favor of more pragmatic elements.
You do know that around the time we got independence, ppl had already begun to disobey Gandhi.

About the 55 crores that Gandhi fasted for then let me tell you that was NOT the reason Gandhi was killed. Gandhi was attacked 6 six times before that and Godse was involved in two previous attempts. When the unsuccessful attempts of 1934, 1944 and 1946 were made the proposal regarding the partition and the matter regarding release of Rs. 55 crore to Pakistan were not in existence at all.

what made you conclude that I support Gandhi's ideology?

You're right, Nathuram godse had attacked Gandhi ji twice before that incident and I read somewhere that Gandhiji had invited Godse for discussions but the later did not avail of this opportunity given to him

There were many flaws in gadhiji's philosophy . all great men and women do have ! They are human beings afterall. It is also true that gadhiji had such a massive command over people ....that he deeply influenced nation and people . gandhi weilded this immense power that his moral integrity gave him he was undefeatable on that account .nobody could really stand up against him in that sense and hindu mahasabha new that very well . so they chose easy way out . but in the process they immortalised gandhiji and so were his flaws .

But on another perspective gadhi has been killed many times ....most if the times it has been the party that he wanted to dissolve .

Gadhiji had many such fantastic ideas which ithers did not find as great . he wanted to disband the indian army ....

Gadhiji and leo tolstoy both were contemporary and great souls . both were good extremists at times ...and both would go at great length to prove and test their ideas ....

Based on tolstoy's idea gadhiji tried and experimented wuth communal living in south africa....i think it was called phoneix park or something like that ....
Problem occured when gandhiji assumed larger than life proportion and gadhiji tried to experiment his ideas on his motherland ....there was no malice ..unfortunately no body could really tell that to gadhiji.
There is famous dialogue with savarkar where gadhiji asks savrakar that i should have right to practise satyagrah....and savarkar retorts saying that you have no right to put nation at stake for yoyr experiment of satyagrah..
.i think that catches the colflict between two very well .

Gadhiji's innumerable flaws howevever do not diminish his greatness anyway ...they should not be ignored ...and they should not be exaggerated . methodology usedby hindu mahasabha of which nathuram godse was only a face ....was horribly wrong off course !

Please re-read about the Lend Lease Agreements and the British incapability in repaying the huge loans they had accumulated. Besides, even then, had Churchill stayed, India would not have got independence. It was because the Labor Party led Attlee came to power that we became free, albeit ON THEIR CONDITIONS. :)

It was an act of terror. It struck considerable terror into the hearts of anti Hindus. The Gandhians were also indeed terrified. Hindus were immediately attacked, especially Brahmins in Maharashtra by Congressi goons after that. (Godse was a Brahmin).

I know all about Godse bro. I am very good friends with someone from his direct family. I have even visited his ancestral home. Godse continues to be a legend in Maharashtra. And no one here is shy in voicing it. Openly.

You don't know the official details. They are so damaging to Gandhi that they have not been revealed. He is a legend in all over India. He is not considered a villain anyway. There is nothing to be shy. There was a good play on him - Me Nathuram Godse boltoy.

He was killed by Grammar Nazis.

Enlighten us about his so called "evil" history apart from his involvement in that unfortunate/unforgivable incident.
Never judge a historic incidence based on the biased views available in the mainstream sources.
I'm in no way justifying his actions but calling him a anti-national terrorist is far away from reality.

It was neither unfortunate nor was it unforgivable. Besides, Forgiveness is a virtue.

You can also try Gopal Godse's book. Remarkable one actually. Very unlike 'terrorists'. :)

Oh I know about the play all right. The Godse's can spend as much time trying to defending one of their own family and justify his actions- the only thing that degenerate thing did was to kill someone who had made great contributions to his people. Read Dominique Lappiere's Freedom at midnight and you will also find out how 'commited' his pals were. He collaborator flirting with an air hostess as they went to delhi to kill the Father of the Nation- great commitment. He managed to set up a date with her to meet at a hotel during that fateful flight,. Immedeately after the murder he set out on a date with another woman. It was when he went to meet said woman, the daughter of the Police commissioner for his 'date' that he and subsequently Nathuram was caught. Such commited and patriotic men! They are out to do one of the most heinous acts in History and they're thinking about the women they want to bed.

Lemme tell you the contribution of the groups you represent is nothing. No one is interested in knowing what you think about Gandhi.

o_O How is patriotism connected to libido? Have you read My Experiments with Truth? Do you know why Gandhi's son converted to Islam and then back to Hinduism? This is a very slippery ground. :)

Well that particular incident is judged by different people from a different point of view. For me it was an unfortunate that could have been avoided.

But when many people look back to that day some see it as the darkest hour of Indian history & some see it with joy as it eliminated a bottleneck to India's future.

I really don't know which one is true. But if you ask me i think both these conflicting notions were true to some extend. On that day we lost a great patriot who never knew what was really good for India , a great patriot was too engulfed with his own ego to see what was really happening around him

By 1948, Gandhi had become God. Nobody could oppose him, nobody could go against him, nobody could have a different opinion. India would most probably have ceased to exist if he lived longer. He did not want industries, wanted to abolish the army, etc etc.
