The one time he could have made a real difference, with his own tactics (non cooperation) was when the British needed to raise a volunteer army.

And what did he do? History is testament. Not once, but twice. Like a good brown native eager to please his white masters.

Had it been Europe, he would have been arrested for collaboration. He did not even go for a vote. He said, India shall fight with you. And the ministries agreed. Of course, why not? He was God.

There were many flaws in gadhiji's philosophy . all great men and women do have ! They are human beings afterall. It is also true that gadhiji had such a massive command over people ....that he deeply influenced nation and people . gandhi weilded this immense power that his moral integrity gave him he was undefeatable on that account .nobody could really stand up against him in that sense and hindu mahasabha new that very well . so they chose easy way out . but in the process they immortalised gandhiji and so were his flaws .

But on another perspective gadhi has been killed many times ....most if the times it has been the party that he wanted to dissolve .

Gadhiji had many such fantastic ideas which ithers did not find as great . he wanted to disband the indian army ....

Gadhiji and leo tolstoy both were contemporary and great souls . both were good extremists at times ...and both would go at great length to prove and test their ideas ....

Based on tolstoy's idea gadhiji tried and experimented wuth communal living in south africa....i think it was called phoneix park or something like that ....
Problem occured when gandhiji assumed larger than life proportion and gadhiji tried to experiment his ideas on his motherland ....there was no malice ..unfortunately no body could really tell that to gadhiji.
There is famous dialogue with savarkar where gadhiji asks savrakar that i should have right to practise satyagrah....and savarkar retorts saying that you have no right to put nation at stake for yoyr experiment of satyagrah..
.i think that catches the colflict between two very well .

Gadhiji's innumerable flaws howevever do not diminish his greatness anyway ...they should not be ignored ...and they should not be exaggerated . methodology usedby hindu mahasabha of which nathuram godse was only a face ....was horribly wrong off course !

Most Indians of my generation do not like Gandhi because we see him as weak and a stooge. It has nothing to do with muslims. Less than nothing.

Demonization of Bose was a side effect. He did not demonize and actually dethrone him(literally) because his adversary was Bose. He did it because he himself was Gandhi, hence infallible. And collaboration with the British was a remarkable quality - in both the wars. His defence was that Hitler was the bigger evil. So we could have stayed neutral, no? And what about the first war?
Also you miss the Congress support for the Khilafat movement.

Bull shit demonization of bose. This Politics not some joke. You have a position in name but don't have the support or power to execute it, that is the time you resign. Despite admirable personal courage and undenaiable leadership, Bose was a very flawed leader. Leading us into the arms of the Nazis wasn't gonna do us any good- they lose we're screwed, worse if they actually won we would have been screwed 10 times over.
I think this insitance on attacking Gandhi and saying Bose was 'demonized' is actually very similar to saying that Saurav Ganguli's removal from Indian cricket team should be debated in parliament. Just because he was a bong and you want a bong to be pushed up whether the guy played the game well or not. Maybe you should learn from people like me- I'm a Tamilian with roots in malluland who is defending a Gujarati. Country is more important than community.

actually godse committed a blunder by killing gandhi , it would have been much easier to criticize & expose him had he not been murdered . Had he died a peaceful death a larger section of the society would have questioned the bias in congress secularism but now even if a point is raised against him you are branded as a hindu militant .

I guess godse was thinking more about the present than the future while pulling the trigger .

if you do a quick survey in a college you would know 95% of the youth idolize bhagat singh while non would want to be a gandhi . That would tell you how much does the current generation love him .

Despite being a population more than 90% illiterate, I think it would be an exaggeration to think that Hitler would have gassed us all, He'd probably just used us as slave labor if he won, along with a large quota for Japan. I think I @SarthakGanguly @Armstrong etc, would still have met in the 21st century, all of us would have been working in the same coal mines to provide for the reich.

We look at the Nazi's as if they are really bad yet conveniently forget how many of our ppl died due to British policies over 100 yrs. Hindsight is always 20-20. After putting up with the British and their injustice, its not hard to see why. Bose was practical. He knew the allies would not help India's cause due to their views on white power. He simply befriended the enemy of his enemy.

Stop to think, but possibly the pressure placed by Bose forced the British to be more willng to accomodate the Gandhi/India?


Gandhi did some good, but there are issues I have with him also. Some facts simply do not add up. Nehru was a British stoolie. You are not going to find factual evidence for that. He got rid of it and anyone who could speak on it, is long dead or have been publicly shamed.


Gandhi sleeping with little girls. How come our textbooks gloss over such FACTS? Let us judge him knowing all the facts. Non violence for me is the only option left when you cannot beat someone with force. Its smart but not romanticized in the books. However, its a wonderful tool to use against an enemy that thinks its civilized. But did you ever think, what if there was no WW2? Would the British appease Indians and Gandhi? The answer is no. To this day, my mother still thinks we should have went the route of Hong Kong. Become fully developed, embrace good qualities from the West, and then separate. Look at India now.....under Congress we barely made any f-ing progress. We never educate the public on how and what to vote on. All we did was copy the worst from the West and incorporate that.
