If China and India relation detoriate further....and then India should follow the same path as China has followed for India...India should assist Vietnam is acquiring nuclear weapon....This is not a bad idea..If Pakistan and country like NK can be assited and financed by China to have a nuclear weapon, the India can use the same logic for Vietnam too...It will be a game changer for South East Asia..

As far as supplying Pakistan with nuclear technology, Pakistan has sold nuclear technology to several other states. Pakistan may not be a signatory of the NPT, but China is. One of the key pillars of the NPT is non-profileration, but China didn't stop Pakistan from proliferating the technology.

Are you certain? I thought it was your deliberate and rather complicit overlooking that got your MNNA Pakistan the "ISLAMIC" bomb -- knowing fully well that it was meant solely to be used on a hapless Hindu India!

It is another matter that the same ally promptly passed on the nuclear recipe to Iran/Libya/NK and God knows who else -- only for you to spend a fortune again in damage-control!

Isn't NPT already a piece of paper, though? North Korea signed, got nuclear technology and uranium supplies, developed a nuclear weapon, and then withdrew from the NPT. Iran signed the NPT, got nuclear technology and uranium supplies, and it's almost certain to develop a nuclear weapon. This is all thanks to Russia and China.

A lot of Chinese users here express outrage at the possibility of Vietnam developing nuclear weapons, but these same Chinese users seem remarkably forgiving about North Korea and Iran, and China's role in protecting these two regimes. It's fairly clear to outside observers that China would therefore not bomb Vietnam if it developed nuclear weapons, especially because of the message that would send to all of China's other neighbors.

In short, hasn't China greatly undermined the NPT? Why should China complain if Vietnam now violates the NPT?

But yes, China has no right to determine who possesses the bombs and who doesn't! Or for that matter, no country should have that right! Either all the countries forfeit their nuclear arsenal or stop the BS of not allowing others to have the bomb.

It is rather hypocritical that a select few countries that got a headstart and built insane number of nuclear weapons, preach to the slower ones about the matter!

The US gave Pakistan nukes, genius. Maybe Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh could use some nukes, or a few well-placed dams. North Korea got there on their own.

Well, although the North Korea is a nuke country, I don't think that western countries afraid of them. Without their defensive pact with China, I believe that NK has been swarmed by South Korea, Japan, and US armies by now.

Becoming a nuke country means that you have oppose the already nuke country and give them an excuse to invade you in the name to prevent you from become a nuke country. Maybe you can stand against the invasion. But, it will surely destroy your country and economy. is it a bad idea? Well, no comment here.

I've no doubt China would give Thailand its full backing should the Vietnamese dream of forging their little banana empire. And if Vietnam were to get nukes (pretty close to impossible but lets pretend for the sake of argument), then China would arm all of Vietnam's enemies with nukes thereby brickwalling any hopes of Vietnam attaining regional supremacy.
