Why Indian Music Is Not Good?

Why Indian music is not good? Even Indians are sick of "chicknee cahameli" songs and so they are migrating to cokestudio.. Someone even go so far as to invite Pakistani singers to India. So my question is why Indian music of 1940's-1990's was so good, and then it took a downslide? Is it because Bollywood wanted to copy Hollywood or what?

Agreed. India's best singers were Muslims and older generation. I like Lata songs. Also some Indian Punjabi singers are very good. Hans raj is a very good artist to Pakistani tastes. Indians have commercialized their industries to the point that talent never gets exposure.

There is no such thing as indian music, there is bengali music, punjabi music, tamil music etc. Bollywood song does not represent india, Bollywood songs may be in decline but the other songs in other parts of india still has its sheen left. Try listening to gazals, they still rock

Favorite Indian song. Indians used to have some good ghazal singers, but unfortunately i think most of them have expired. I can agree though, modern day Indian music is pretty garbage.
