Why I wear a Burqa: Burqa gives protection and respect

That makes no sense. Let's take Hutus and Tutsis. Tutsi are tall and Hutu are short. That makes a biological difference - are we going to treat them differently ? Would you say that making all the seats in a bus tall and asking Hutu people to carry a pillow around with them (so that they can sit properly on the seat) is positive discrimination? In my opinion it is not - it is negative.
Asking woman to wear a Burkha because they would otherwise get raped is similar. The correct solution is to control the men.

Can a Hutu man wear the same size trousers with comfort that a Tutsi man can wear? Why are there differences in sizes? Is that difference racist to you?

What if you cannot control men in a particular society which is affected by cultural intrusion?

I never told that men should not be brought under control, but at the same time, women also should be brought under control.

I was not advertising for burqa, I do not produce burqa. I was talking about decent and civic attire. Get my point clearly.

Well the thread has drifted away from the burkha thing to equality, but still i'll like to add my opinion.

First we need to understand the definition of equality, equality doesn't mean that if a man can eat 5 chapatis so all the women must also be given 5, despite the fact that they might not be able eat even 3.

Equality doesn't mean that if women wear colorful printed clothing, men should also be given the same option or as the men wear sober, single colored cloths so should the women also.

Equality doesn't mean that if men can survive in a particular cold environment with one jacket so the women are also asked to survive the same cold in the same clothing.

Men and women are made different and thus behave differently and act differently, they have different needs and requirements.

i wonder why a women always long for jewelery but men dont. why a rose to them can win their hearts but to have the same effect on men you might have to replace the rose with a heavy bike, a sports car or a gun.

Now, i dont mean that men and women must be discriminated, no never, they have equal RIGHTS not equal NEEDS. Yes both need a shelter to live in but their designs are different, both need a bed to sleep but a man may not be comfortable with the size of a bed on which a women might fit.

i dont want to mention anything about have gents and women washroom separated. But yes they both need a washroom.

Equality means that both men and women be given equal opportunities for study, women must not be stopped from studying more as done in certain cultures.

Equality means that both men and women be given equal pay scales when they work the similar jobs.

Equality mean that if men can roam out so an the women, but i being a Muslim will have some restrictions, like going out late night, going out alone, etc etc, but the thing is that they should be allowed.

As for the equality in terms of biology and its effects, everyone knows that the women has those 'certain' days, and they are not comfortable, so imagine the toil and her decision making ability in those days. Imagine a she has to make war decisions and ends up screwing it. Compare it with if you had a terrible headache and you are asked to debate with someone, you'll definitely say screw the debate give me some aspirin.

Women give birth not men, any of you who are married must be knowing about the conditions and the difficulties a women can have during the entire period of pregnancy. Imagine a boss asking a pregno to give the same output as she did when she was Ok, so equality means that they must be sent home on whether you call maternity leave or something else.

So they are different and are to be treated differently, i don't why you tend to be more humble and respectful while addressing to women as compared to men? But this doesn't mean that these to species should be discriminated, one being given all the privileges and the other being banned from even asking for them.

Ofcourse, you can not force a women to wear a burqa or hajab. If they are a part of a religion, which requires a women to wear 1, you still can not force it on them. It is also true that, people look at you with respect when wearing a Hijab.

Why do women wear short skirts or short shirts, so they can be noticed. Women puts more make-up on, so they could be noticed, and women wear a hijab so people do not look at them or stare at them, the way they would if she was wearing a mini skirt.

This is also the reason, why the rape rate in america is so high.

In a healthy society you dont need it,while in a lusty, ugly and unhealthy society you are forced to use it to protect yourself, denying your basic rights and needs....thnx

What seems to you lusty, ugly and unhealthy society is not essentially a lusty, ugly and unhealthy society to others.

Wearing a bollywoody bikini in public may be healthy and beautiful to you, but to me its a punishable offense.

Relativity theory.

for your knowledge i read the posts, and was replying to your insane sexist comments which came later on..........the woman in concern was forced by the consequences to take shelter under the burqa, but it is clear that she is faroff wearing it in a healthy society, which shows the use of the burqa!! In a healthy society you dont need it,while in a lusty, ugly and unhealthy society you are forced to use it to protect yourself, denying your basic rights and needs....thnx

There is no such thing as a healthy society, these people are the same, as when they were outside of a jail.

Where in the report you found the word 'force'?

The situation demanded that. In the open society also women should be careful about their use of attire. Thats civic. We live in a civilized world. We cannot accept primordial primitive nudist vulgar culture as we sometimes see in Bollywood masala films.

The report shows us how a woman can be respected and why wearing jeans-top a woman is molested.

WE MUST NOT COMMODITIZE OUR SISTERS IN THE NAME OF WOMEN'S RIGHTS.

wearing jeans-top is in no way uncivilized if men can roam along wearing trousers........this may also seem vulgar to the women...........women cant be always nullified because of male lust.......cant men be more civilized??.....why do women have to always shape and change themselves for the need of society and men ?? Why cant we change, and create space for them in the society?? It shouldnt be always the same way round........

There is no such thing as a healthy society, these people are the same, as when they were outside of a jail.

but she never felt threatened outside the jail and never needed a burqa......thats what i meant by diffrnce in society,in the jail all were beasts, while outside you do have thousands to hunt this beasts who are in small number....thnx

why do women have to always shape and change themselves for the need of society and men ??

Not for every society and not for all men. Do not confuse a Muslim society and a Hindu society anyway. All societies are not based upon same social norms and values.

you are confusing bollywood crap to reality,NOT WEARING BURQA DOESNt MEAN WEARING BIKINI,DAMN IT!! Its our fault if women dont feel secure in our society,we cant always blame them, can we?

It wasn't her, but there are other women who are being raped every day(a women gets raped every two minutes in america). The reason she was in jail, because she was one of them.

No one is asking the women to change, but the thing is how long can a normal young dude resist a babe in bikini when she curls and folds and twists. Now you'll argue that most westerns and a few from your country dont just get carried away that easily as they have gone 'immune' to such things due to the repetitive visualization of the same, it no more attracts your eye, OK, so you want suggest that in order to get every man on this earth immunized we should make all the women folk of this world show maximum flesh so that when Mr Wannabe-Immune grows up he dont feel lusty and becomes what you call civilized.

This is also the reason, why the rape rate in america is so high.

Actually Europe allows more nudity than US. Why is the rape rate so low then? Why is there so much rape in South Africa? Rape rates around the world are pretty much uncorrelated with dressing style. It is more correlated with other crime rates (homicide, robbery) than anything else.

Rapes (per capita) statistics

Stop allowing rape and security violations and that solves the problem much faster than burkhas.

Bali, where the case happened oddly enough is mixed Hindu-Muslim. Their norms are very different from yours. And norms, if they are found wrong must be changed irrespective of religion.

Everyone, I wanted to emphasize the positive aspect of wearing a burqa which is not a sign of oppression, but a sign of protection and generating dignity.

Just listen to what Leslie insisted. She voluntarily opted for burqa, she was never forced. And she appreciated the good results of wearing a burqa.

Why you people are judging this story from a negative point of view?

And Indian members, please leave your Chankya diplomacy aside.

I think you're missing the point here.

This Leslie character is not saying anything positive about the burkha.

She's saying the men in prison were more respectful towards her, because she identified herself as a Muslim woman.

It's like over in the West, the Burkha will not be viewed in a positive way by people.

It simple shows we all have a long way to go before we accept different cultures, and that every culture is guilty of the same discriminatory views.
