Why does India's Border Security Force Shoot Bangladeshi Civilians?

Smuggling is a fact
Trafficking is a fact
Illegal crossing is a fact..

That being said, is it ethical to kill people because they engage in aforementioned unlawful activities?

Yes, it is.
You can't cross international border,it's not your country ,if you try you get shot simple.

How can BSF differentiate from far away if someone who is crossing is a mere smuggler or a member of an insurgent group?
If they dont shoot, these people will simply run and escape. If any of these does an attack on BD soil and that person happens to be an Indian citizen, then blame will be on India.
Shooting creates a strong detterence for anyone thinking of attempting to cross illegally. If BSF goes lenient, then many more ppl may attempt to cross illegally.

BD members inform us that getting an Indian visa there is as easy as getting a mobile sim. Legal entries are very welcome.

@magra There are cases of torture by BSF and then killing of cattle smuggler. Even at LoC from where the chances of militants crossing are real, BSF doesn't shoot everyone. Don't you think the law should take its due course instead of this killing?

If a person is caught, then I agree that a lawful process should follow rather than killing. But I am not sure if killing in such cases is an official BSF policy. May be one or two incidents by corrupt officers. India & BD should have a formal mechanism to deal with such smugglers who are caught.

Also, BD should step up survelliance at their end as well so that they can stop their people from getting too close to the border.

Last year's score was 45 I think.
The only smugglers, human traffickers are Bangladeshis, we suppose..

You dinked one on Victory Day the famous 16 December.

I read the news article you posted.
I dont understand why would BSF come inside BD territory to shoot a boy who is apparently not trying to cross the border.
They said they were erecting a fence. If it was close to the border, may be it felt that they are trying to cross the border using the material of the fence.
I am sure BGB and BSF will discuss this matter and settle. Innocent life lost is regretted.

India and BD leaders should meet and find a good solution to this problem so that these do not happen.
One solution can be to create a no-man's land so that no one other than military comes close to the border.

Let's not confuse LoC with the India BD border. Militants of the Kashmiri resistance don't cross over to live in India but to die in India.
As trained commandos with state of the art wire cutters, a fence means little to them. They are heavily armed, give covering fire to distract and mostly get away. Some are shot by the Indian BSF and they gun down the BSF also. The encounters usually escalate into the BSF calling for backup with machine gun and mortar fire, The Pakistani rangers jump in, The body count escalates. The Rangers call for back-up.
Then the heavy guns open up with the IA and PA hammering each other blowing each other's posts to pieces. Until the DGMOs get on the line to temporary cease fire to pick up the bodies.
It's a fairly even match with no quarters asked or given. In the long range shelling Pakistani civilians are killed too. But who complains
It is part of the game.

A lot different from India BD border. There it is the BSF which (literally ) calls the shots.

Imagine your nation is a lifeboat. The lifeboat already doesn't have enough to satisfy everybody on the boat. The seas are rough. Any boat can go down at anytime. Many on the boat are already extremely angry. Some have done or are now doing the real work and rowing, others are just taking. People are angry. Now more people want to move from low quality boats to swamp better quality boats. What do you do?

Really? People get SHOT DEAD BY MILITARY AND PARAMILITARY FORCES for trespassing across borders? What country is this you're describing? Civilised nations do no such thing. Btw, most of these people get shot in bd territory according to the report. Where is your "trespassing" actually proven prior to the act of summary execution being dished out as an extra-judicial sentence?

Please read all the links in the opening post. International organizations like HRW are also monitoring the body count.
More Bangladeshis have been shot in the last year than Palestinians by the Israelis.

Why did the BSF come inside Bangladeshi territory?

Don't know. One possibility...the BSF in the Eastern Zone is known to have a significant recruitment from the states of Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
These personnel have a very different opinion of Bangladeshis and view them not as citizens of a foreign country, but one of their own nuisance creating Muslim citizens.

.
A curious question. Is there a concept of no-man's land between India and BD, like we have between India and Pak ?

I don't think so..some places the border is cheek by jowl...had pics of it before.....if both countries can at least race to Colombia level prosperity, this inhuman situation will subside....people to people cooperation between India and Bangladesh is the key, rather than delegation level cooperation

.
Nice photoshop ! But as a Pakistani I am not complaining. You do have a case. Check the links in the OP then comment.
Ask your ally the Bangladeshis. You won't like the answer I give you.
haha what photoshopping? There are enough video evidence as well as photographic evidence for illegal crossings. I don't need to ask Bangladeshis, they are overpopulated, it's only practical they push people out of the country and look up when asked to take them back.

You are taking a very simplistic view of the situation. If the killings were due to any bias on the part of BSF soldiers, then I am sure the top brass would have taken note and acted on it.

You are trespassing a country or no man's land you will be shot ! Period.

Don't want to get shot ? Don't roam around the fence.

Their is nothing unethical or uncivilised about it,specially in Indo-bangla border which is a terror hub.
