Why China didn't intervene in 1971 war?

Soviets, they simply torpedoed American gun boat diplomacy. If china had moved their troops so would have soviets.

Wow you spoke the truth, watch out you will be called traitor.

But 1971 war was politically and militarily epic one. On one side was India + soviet and opposition pakistan + rest of the world.:yahoo:

Pakistan was alone, rest of the world was not there in the same way as Soviet was there for India

China and Pakistan were not very close back then.

The pro-American Ayub Khan famously offered to form a joint-defense with India, AGAINST China during the 1959-1962 clashes.

I always say this was the biggest missed opportunity for Pakistan. If they had accepted our offer during 1962, they could have taken Kashmir from an already defeated India.

Pakistan helped India, and in return, India repaid them with cruelty.
by 71, pakistan was instrumental in bringing together china and USA(or opening a channel) and USA was mighty pleased with them just for that. Not sure what china was thinking of doing but USA wanted china to at least make a threatening move. Declassified Nixon conversation suggest they were dismayed at least by soviet move.

India had signed friendship treaty just before 71 with soviets and they had promised to take offensive position against china if needed. Soviet-china relation was at a low then.
Finally the war was faught during peak winter(december) which makes movement of chinese forces difficult.

Does anyone think Pakistan could've done anything different in that war?? or could've atleast avoided a surrender??

I don't see India doing anything different either had they were in Pakistani shoes, it was like impossible for Pakistan to hold off fully hostile BD once the Indian troops were in.

yeah... but pakistan could have avoided war by doing a deal with bengalis. Once war started, americans thought pakistanis will surrender in east within 10 days... they hold off for more than that.

Americans faced a moral dillema, they could not support massacre but also cound see a friendly country being bullied by a bigger country.

No you're Wrong.. Pakistan-china were very close since 62 war even you guys assisted them in 65s war with weapons. In 71 we were smart, waited for winter and started the fight,

US wanted china to pour some troops in Indo-China border, thank god China didn't fearing Russian mobilization on the China-Russian border.

What Chinese Offer???? Chinese Establishment didn't even know they would attack India, Pakistanis didn't know that and they were not ready for any offensive, after the 62 was siting Indian weakness they prepared for war.

USSR remained neutral and didn't back india or China as China had reasoned that it was a territorial conflict and not a full fledged war.
Had Pakistan attacked and USSR remained silent then india would have been left with no option but to ask for help from U.S. hence USSR losing an important ally.
Also India getting cornered by Pakistan and chins wouldn't have played well on international front for both the countries

Slight correction to the highlighted part above to be read as:

But 1971 war was politically and militarily epic one. On one side was India + half of Pakistan + Soviet Union and opposition other half of Pakistan + some moral support of some countries.

Helping is to be construed as not attacking India whilst in a war with China????

In that case you have Helped India by not attacking us when Pakistan did, right?

... well Ayub had Grander Plans, which were to attack a India reeling from a defeat three years down the line....

China was also the last country to officially recogonize BD.
And the first to supply them with tanks, frigates, subs etc.... :china:

Back that time china was as worst as North Korea on International front showing anything to neighbours will have only costed hostalities but can we teach a troll!No.......,also read about these events

According to Chinese members here including CD,Sino-Soviet border split was actually a display of Chinese capability to wage war with the Soviets and be victorious.

some moral support of some countries.
I disagree with this stmt, seems pakistan received generous military superior to what indians had.
1971 War: How Russia sank Nixon’s gunboat diplomacy | Russia & India Report
As Nixon’s conversations with the wily Kissinger show, the forces arrayed against India were formidable. The Pakistani military was being bolstered by aircraft from Jordan, Iran, Turkey and France. Moral and military support was amply provided by the US, China and the UK. Though not mentioned in the conversations here, the UAE sent in half a squadron of fighter aircraft and the Indonesians dispatched at least one naval vessel to fight alongside the Pakistani Navy.

It is know fact that Iran had helped pakistan during the war but I had no idea about others.

Whole Mullah Ummah along with west was supporting them with war grade ammo, material and still they lost. KSA was providing them free oil.PAF was allowed to park their fighters in Iranian bases to escape from wrath of raiding IAF and these trolls say that they were not supported adequately . Infact it was India which didn't had any support except blocking of US and UK's carriers and freights.
