Although, this is only jailbreaking, what about SIM unlock? I got my phone way back when it was released in the US and I have to unlock it each time I update it.

I did jailbreak my original iphone (2G) and handed over to papa! it's pretty easy, even if you screw up you can revert back to factory settings on iTunes!

By sim lock you mean putting some other sim card other than ATT like Tmobile or Airtel, yes my dad used Tmobile when he was in US and now back in India, he is using with Airtel.

I think that is the only use of jailbreak, cedia app store hardly works.

The problem is with the IOS 4.0+ upgrades. None of the previous upgrades changed the baseband of the phone, hence unlocking was simple and if it doesn't work, just downgrade it.

With the IOS4 your baseband goes up and you can't really easily get it back.

Asim bro, i have done jailbreaking with my iPad.
Its way far tooooo easy !!
Just open (jailbreakme.com) on your iDevice, and it takes 2 min maximum to jailbreak your device.
You also have all your data/apps with it !!
