That might be a solid reason but, doesn't twin engine have an edge over single engine fighter jets in terms of power, speed and other factors as well? IAF has got SU-30 as its backbone for multi-role purpose. Can our F16s win against those big planes?
Bases being close together means the enemy can take out huge part of the air force in one big simultaneous air and missle strike..
