The Make in India dream keeps colliding with the Chinese reality

you do not control Apple

This is called lying or propaganda

Tell us which of these parts are made in China
Ask Indian Tata, I didn't say it, how do I know

. Almost 90% components used for Apple phones by Tata are sourced from Mainland China,

Did you even read what i wrote? There were many poor countries but China had the combination of size, the right policies and western interest in engaging that no other country had. India had a similar size and per capita income but the governments were following industrial policies that were hostile to foreign investment and India was still allied with Moscow and generally suspicious of the West. Also, it was a politically divisive time in India politics where no one party had a decisive mandate nor did India have a leader with the foresight that Deng Xiaoping has.

LOL - blaming it on Moscow. If only not for moscow we indians be like china - nonsense. Chinese did not even have private company till 80s. And infact till 90s they were seen as necessary evil with lot of restrictions. India had british allied tatas, birlas and other huge corporates from 1930s with continuous existence.

In 1980 you already had western capitalism, western style capital markets, friendly relationships with west and what not.

And also despite what you think - India did not grow much in manufacturing after 90s too when it went all the way to pro-israel.

If Tata didn't give this number, who else?

Even when India tries to become more self-reliant by increasing local manufacturing capacity, it still has to depend on China for critical intermediate inputs. Take the case of Apple's iPhones made in India by Tata. Almost 90% components used for Apple phones by Tata are sourced from Mainland China, even as Apple looks to shift manufacturing to India, ET has reported recently. Items such as brackets, industrial glues, screws, mesh, pressure sensitive adhesives and metal parts are all shipped from China as per Apple’s instructions.

the license raj in India until the 1990s had bloated inefficient private conglomerates and splintered sectors
the infrastructure was piss poor (May be it still is)

If Tata didn't give this number, who else?

Tatas did not give the 95% number

Does china even make 90% of all iPhone components?
Don't know, I didn't write the article, but one thing is so sure, no countries are more important for Apple than China

Tatas did not give the 95% number

well the chinese did not even have a private sector until like 80s. Infrastructure being poor is also not realy correct.
india had far more rail lines than china until like 80s or 90s maybe despite being only one third size. India had more airports until recently or may still has.

Basically india failed with even better starting point. what chance now ?
